A friend of mine went to Mexico once and doesn't remember any of it.

Voluntary amnesia is a well known side-effect after waking up in a latrine at a hazy Mexico border town after a wild boozy night of copulation with alpacas.

While I'm sure that's exactly what happened I'm equally sure it wasn't entirely voluntary amnesia.

As I said so before: stay away from bordertowns or you will be murdered...with things being as they are nowadays, the drug cartels are killing everyone in sight. And Ciudad Juarez now holds the title of most dangerous city on earth (or murder capital of the world, I forget...).
Buuuut...outside of the bordertowns, there's a lot of cool stuff going on :)
Also, Springbreak doesn't count. You won't remember 99% of what goes on around you.

Well it's a well documented fact that Mexican goats put roofies in your grass.

The best place I have ever been is Uganda. Entebbe, Kampala and Jinja.
Despite a familiar level of poverty the people seem to have a sense of pride and purpose that I've found lacking in other countries I've visited. Even in the middle of (what we would call in SA) a township there is very little litter or filth around.
I took a boat ride on the nile and we bumped into some rocks, which caused the "boat" to dissolve around us. We ended up swimming/ dragging each other to the shore of a teeny island type outcrop. Something like that happens in Jozi and you get litigation or at least a brawl. Instead everyone just helped the non swimmers, laughed and got to know each other while we waited for a rescue boat. The foreigners were in the minority but we were all included in conversations.
Istambul was by far my worst foreign experience. I was 16 years old at the time and although I'd been taught the usual female precautions and self defense, I had never been made so aware of my gender before. I felt eyes on me everywhere we went and was treated as "other" by everyone I met. And everyone I met was male, I swear I saw hardly any women the entire time I was there. I think the shock was because up till that point I was used to being primarily defined by the colour of my skin and not by my gender.
Other mentions go out to:
Zanzibar - Honeymoon, booze is expensive, no red meat, lobster the size of your torso for the price of a box of smokes back home. Kilimajaro beer is the nectar of the gods.
Mocambique - Maputo is a crack whore with electrodes attached to her nipples, but the rural areas and Inyaka island are gems.
Namibia - best sandboarding in the world. Very. Hot.
Zimbabwe - pre meltdown was by far the prettiest place I've ever seen. Their lowest value coin used to work on the R2 pool tables in Jozi. Don't go now, too sad.
Place I most want to go to is Gabon.

I'd like to visit Senegal some time. First as a kind of pilgrimage as Saint Louis was the last stop before crossing the South Atlantic on Aeropostale flights and many took off and never returned... And the back country is beautiful I heard, and documentaries/pics I've seen seem to confirm that. :)

No mention of major Italian cities yet? I spent a day in Verona and Venice and 5 days in Rome. Verona was pretty cool but especially Venice and Rome are a sight to behold. So much beauty it overwhelms, something to see at every corner. Especially great if you like visiting churches and other architectural landmarks.
Great food also in Italy. Try to find a local restaurant that doesn't have a tourist menu.
By the way, don't visit Rome during the summer, it's way too hot, and Venice is partly flooded during some months.
Amsterdam is a great place to visit in my opinion, but I wouldn't want to live there. Big cities like Amsterdam, Rome and Prague (also recommended) are so crowded that it comes across to me as a huge assault on the senses (that's pretty common with autistic people). 5 days in Rome was a bit too much for me for that reason.
But I'm going to Amsterdam there next Liberation Day (5th of May), that's a big Dutch holiday, it'll be even more crowded but I'm looking forward to drinking beer on terraces with old friends and maybe seeing some bands at Liberation Day festivals. Hopefully the weather will be good and it won't be too crowded to find a place to sit somewhere.

I have a job interview in Amsterdam on Friday and am staying there for one night. All those years a pot-head and I end up going when I've given all that up......
It doesn't look that big on the maps. I'll check out the video, cheers.
