My fucking god that looks terrible.

The plot sounds like it was concocted by a kid who's just eaten Egyptian themed cereal with too much sugar and artificial colourings but it actually looks way better than the first in terms of cinematography.
Of course, it's only a trailer, and I'll probably never watch it anyway.

Its TRANSFORMERS ffs.
ie: Megan Fox draped over various pieces of machinery and huge robots knocking all kinds of shit out of each other surrounded by pointless but awesome explosions.
Thats what I want from this movie; and by god thats what it looks like. I'm there on opening day for sure.
If you want a discussion on the Robotic Mind or something pussy like that, go watch I Robot or 2001.

There's no accounting for taste. I can understand guilty pleasure flicks, but that doesn't mean that they can't be well made too. Tony Scott comes to mind, he's like what Michael Bay would be like if he had any talent.
Here's a contrast between 1986's Transformers: The Movie and that 2007 live-action film.
TF:TM has a well written, lean script that's entirely free of fat. Michael Bay on the hand has no fucking idea how to edit script or pace a film, the tone is all over the place, it has too many dead weight plot threads that go nowhere (eg at the fat black basement dwelling hacker and the government agency analysts; John Turturro's bumbling comic relief character).
Michael Bay can't compose action scenes properly. The action in TF '07 consisted of too many zoomed in shots, shaky cam and fast cuts - it's neigh impossible to follow what's going on the screen at times. Compare the action cinematography to genuine classicd of the Action film genre like James Cameron's Terminator 2, John Woo's Hardboiled and Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch - THAT'S how action is done well, those talented directors could compose action scenes that were so beautiful and well executed, that they could be revered as art. People love to criticise Zak Snyder until the cow comes home, but at least he can fucking shoot action competently, unlike Bay.
The pacing was bad. I was bored to tears by all of the long stretches with nothing but comedic gags and aforementioned redundant plotlines, both of which far outweighed the action scenes.
Nelson Shin's direction in TF '86 was better than Bay's has ever been. Perhaps it was a total fluke where all the elements fell into place, like Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973), but it absolutely fucking works.
It always boggles the mind how talentless douche bags in the entertainment industry tend to fail upwards. Bay's prior film to TF '07, The Island, bombed theatrically and critically; so I guess that he likely only got more work through sheer charisma and salesmanship alone.
The bottom line is that Transformers (2007) was ha orribly made film and that's why I hate it. If it were genuinely good, then I would sing its praises just as much as Transformers: The Movie, which due to sheer quality has stood the test of time. The same cannot be said about the G1 TV series however, which has dated absolutely horribly, due to piss poor writing and production values. TF:TM is genuine cinema, the TV series on the other hand are just glorified toy commercials.
Absolutely nothing to do with fanboyism or nostalgia, I don't see the world through narrow ignorant spectrums like that. I would totally recommend the Star Wars prequel trilogy if they were well made genuinely well made films. But no, George Lucas is a hack. The scripts were horrible, ESPECIALLY the dialogue; the majority of the acting was abysmal. The action was competent at least, but too many of the scenes were so fucking silly and childish that I was turned off.

I agree with thefonz; it's Transformers, not Hamlet. Take it for what it is and enjoy. I'm going.
And I'm wearing stuff.
:p

A common rallying cry among those who plunk down their hard earned for drivel like this. A rock concert ain't the London Philharmonic but I expect the band to be able to play a fucking tune.
