At first glance it might appear innocent enough, two directors who once had their day in the sun doing a much beloved property justice on the big screen (don't deny it, you watched the show and drooled over every new toy that came out), but no, the truth quickly rears it's ugly head.
Quote:
Don Murphy, a Transformers co-executive producer, said Spielberg, DreamWorks and Hasbro are committed to making a film that is no less than "GREAT" (the capital letters are all his).
"It will be GREAT," Murphy continued, "and then we will make
sequel after sequel. There is no doubt that this is true."
So now hollywood has gotten to the point where it openly admits all it will do from now on is recycle old properies and make sequels?
Bleah.

the thing is, Don Murphy is certifiably fucking insane. I don't doubt that the first film will be all sorts of cool, but I do doubt that it'll make enough to warrant a massive franchise, and I HIGHLY doubt that Bay will come back to direct all the sequels and that Spielberg will stay on executive producing it.

Holy god, yes! I'm no fan of Michael Bay but his style and penchant for hi-octane special effectsery is perfect for doing a Transformers film. And Spielburg as executive producer is just gravy.
Anyway, the sequel after sequel thing is just the guy's enthusiasm for this becoming a franchise, as it is almost certainly likely to become if the first one is successful to any degree. Without having to rely on a big-name star or character because of the special effects themselves being the star of the show, they could churn out countless follow-ups for ever if it looked profitable enough.

"live-action"
I knew it was time for a film director to skullfuck something I cherished as a child :erg:.

I'm with Dave Angel; this movie has the potential to kick serious ass.
thefonz on 15/7/2005 at 11:59
teh real questions are:
1) does it follow from the cartoon movie?
2) if not, who plays Optimus Prime and Megatron?
it could kick ass.
it will kick ass.

Nah, I doubt this will follow on from the cartoon movie. It'lll be a whole new take on the original "generation one" story.
I hope they get the original voice-actors back for this.

I've read rumours that they're planning to get the guy who did the original Optimus Prime for the movie, so that's great. Plus, it looks like Mark Hamill and Micheal J. Fox are serious fan favorites for Starscream and Bumblebee, respectively. Personally, I think Hamill would do an excellent job with the voice over of any character, but him as Starscream would rock!

On the one hand, having Speilburg there gives it some tangible credibility. Minority Report actually was an interesting story, even as far fetched as it was. Speilburg can direct, and he can write. Having Speilburg there is only good.
And I've seen information, to the extent of "we're going to take as much time as it takes, to do it the right way". This also lends credence to the Enlightment period, during which the likes of Xmen was produced. However, judging Hollywoodland as of late, I cannot say I am all that interested in this development. Judging by the MPAA, as of late, I can tell you that I'm not even remotely interested in this development.
Star Trek 2 killed off Spock. Adults were sending death-threats to even single member of the crew and production team, at which point Nimoy said he was going to make a comeback. Better a living actor, stigmatized, than a dead actor. The Movie killed off Optimus, and kids across the nation cried. A couple years later, all the adults got tired of it, and brought back Optimus with some kind of fucking spores (or something).
I think I'd rather see an "alternative" version of the Movie, rather than a remake of the Movie...and I'll god damn take anything other than Rodimus. Let Ironhide actually open the damn thing this time...
