If you're refering to me; Of course I can see what's adventurous about Wall-E's first act, and indeed about a lot of Pixar's output hence my comment about the 'so called mainstream pattern', but I wasn't about to have that debate since it really doesn't matter in the end. The point was it doesn't really matter how original or ground-breaking a film is as much as how good it is and Pixar's films are, more often than not, brilliant.

I was, but going back over the thread it seems I was incorrectly ascribing some of JohnnyTheWolf's asinine comments to you, so my bad on that.

Yeah, my vitrol is in part because I suspect JtW's film taste lie in the direction described by myself and AngelDust, which isn't really fair because he hasn't stated. In my experience however, people who usually deride Pixar for making "family" films are huge fans of splatter cinema and inane Mallrats carbon copies.

For those of you keeping count, I just said Pixar's stuff is better than Tarantino, the Knocked Up guy, Kevin Smith, and Marvel films. Yeah, I said that. BRING IT.
Would you believe that I actually LIKE shitty romantic comedies? And, prefer them over anything by Tarantino (hack) and Marvel films--still love Kevin, though...romantic comedies and all.
Wall-E forever!

For what it's worth, I enjoy the occasional Pixar film as well as Tarantino (really looking forward to Inglourious Basterds!) and Kevin Smith. (Well, okay, I only really like the original Clerks and Mallrats. The rest I don't care about.) I also like Tarkovsky's Stalker and Jacob's Ladder was one of my favourite films for years.
What does that tell you about me?

You can't decide which side you're on.
...and wear size 8 shoes.

Size 12 actually, and anyway the point is I actually enjoy movies.
Well except A Clockwork Orange.

What didn't you like about one of the greats?
Starrfall on 1/6/2009 at 16:43
The book might be one of the greats, but the film is just Kubrick. (Which is not necessarily the same as "great" I don't care how many long hallway shots he puts in.)

All I can say about ACO is that it probably would have really really impressed me when I was 15.
