This might sound odd, but there´s a connection between constant pain in the neck and defective position of your teeth. I once saw a reportage where a orthodontist talked about the influence of the position of your jaw-bone on the neck and neck musculature. Don´t want to add just another funny idea to your "medical history" here, but maybe you want to check that out.
Getting physiotherapy or a massage (like already suggested) in order to strengthen or relax neck supporting musculature isn´t a bad idea too.
Also there is a thing called craniosacral therapy. Google it, it´s an alternative practitioner/homeopathy thingy.

Are you still sleeping in a chair? This could have something to do with your problem.

(I have a bad gag reflex) Wait.....aren't you supposed to be bi? This is a bad development in our tales of the Chaos Magician.

Sypha, you just have to toughen up because it is not going to get any better the older you get. There are so many people out there in such poor health it is a stuggle for them each day. Your list of ailments is a normal day for me.

What´s wrong with you guys? Seems like all of you are either on psychotropics, half-crippled or otherwise handicapped. Is there a premise I missed when I filled out the registration?

That's why so many of us have so much time to sit in front of computers!:p
No, seriously....

Yeah, I still sleep in a chair... though I do sleep in bed sometimes.
Anyway, I got about 5 hours of sleep on Saturday night and felt a little better Sunday morning, so much so that I was able to go to work and get through my whole shift with little to no pain at all. I had hoped that working would make me more tired, and I managed to fall asleep last night at around 3. The only problem was I woke up at 4:45 with a spasm on the OTHER side of my neck, which naturally brought on a panic attack. I moped around for a few hours, then went back to sleep at 9, waking up around 1 or so. So I got about 5 hours, but they were spread out. I think I'm in this cycle now where I get anxious about not getting enough sleep and as a result get very sleep at all. That's common to people who suffer from General Anxiety Disorder, which I have.
I'm a little bummed out about how I feel today after the success of Sunday but hopefully I'll sleep better tonight with the new self-affirmations I've learnt recently. Once I get past tuesday I'll be at my weekly two days off and that will give me time to rest and try to settle into a better sleeping routine.
Oh yeah, cheers for the suggestions! I decided to skip the Valium but I did do the Motrin, 2 of the chewable tablets for children (didn't face me, I usually use children's Tylenol for headaches anyway). I've also been putting something hot on my neck at least 3-4 times a day. It does seem much better, but I'm still having trouble sleeping with it.

I don't get the sleeping in chair thing - if you get tired, you turn off the computer, and go to bed.
Simple, right?

Nothing is simple where Sypha Nadon is concerned.

Well, the thing about the chair is, back in the summer of '98 I suffered a very bad attack of acid reflux, so bad that I couldn't lie down and barely even sit down. So I had to teach myself how to fall asleep siting up. Problem was, I got so used to it that by the time my acid reflux got under control, I had forgotten how to sleep in a bed. I tried tons of different things, but as soon as I tried lying down it would feel like my chest was seizing up and I couldn't breathe. So ever since I've slept in a chair. Believe it or not, despite doing so all these years it's only now I have these neck problems. Having said that, I can sleep in bed, and sometimes take small naps during the day (usually no longer then 1-2 hours). The morning before my neck spasm night, I spent 4 hours asleep in bed, which is a new record for me (I wonder if that contributed to my neck spasms that night? Sleeping in two different positions in two different areas). Technically, I could sleep in bed if I wanted (so long as I don't lie totally flat), but my brother who I share a room with is kind of a night-owl and doesn't get to bed till 4:30 AM or so. I think I did a thread on this once...
Man, it'll be tough to explain this to any potential people who want to fuck me in the future. I wonder if there's such a thing as a chair made for two?

.Wow.
