Yeah, Bond was rubbish, Dark Knight was great, as was Changeling which I just saw. Cloverfield was entertaining but pretty soon forgotten. THE EYE was abysmal. I only saw Persepolis this year too and it was pretty good.

Put Gomorra on that list. Very strong film about the Camorra, the Sicilian version of the mafia.

Taking notes, guys - got a lot of these lined up to watch over the Christmas break. Hopefully updating my list soon... I watched The Visitor, need a sleep to digest my thoughts on it.

Movies that were shit
Uh, dunno. Must have blocked those out.
May I suggest The Strangers as it is a terrible film
I'd list my best films but it'd just be repeats from above posts, you can probably guess them!

'08 Movies I enjoyed:
The Dark Knight
Hancock
Speed Racer
Ironman
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The Incredible Hulk
Indy was as expected, an ok movie but not even as good as Speed Racer.

Once I get over the horror of being made to sit through (

Four Christmases, my candidate for most god-awful Christmas movie ever, I will be able to compile my list :D

Was Speed Racer worth picking up cheaply on DVD for someone who never saw the original series?

Anyone who has the new Indy in their top 10 can pretty much be discounted from the off. That other films in that 10 are good must surely be a coincidence. The new Indy is the worst film I've seen all year, and I've seen some stinkers.

Thank god no-one has mentioned Mamma Mia yet, the (
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3283481/Mamma-Mia-becomes-highest-grossing-British-film.html)
highest grossing British film of all time.Like some others here I didnt get to everything i wanted this year but here are my quick thoughts on what I did see though:
The Good.
Dark Knight: OK it is slightly bloated and not as tightly contained as I would have liked but 1) I saw it in IMax which is amazing and 2) I thought Ledger was brutally fantastic.
There Will Be Blood: Didnt see it until 2008 over in the UK. Another film built around an epic performance from Daniel Day Lewis.
Iron Man: Knows exactly what it is....cheesy, simple and good fun. Never approaches great for me but is a film to watch when you want to just kick back and relax.
Burn After Reading: Like almost all Coen Brother films I have seen I love it without being 100% sure why.
The Bad.
Hancock An idea with potential that after the first 15 minutes was badly handled leading to a very dissapointing film for me.
The Ugly.
Indy: There are only 3 Indiana Jones films as far as I am concerned.
Top of my to see list are WallE, Hellboy 2 and Waltz With Bashir.

Greats
Iron Man - needs no explanation. Tony Stark is just awesome.
The Dark Knight - Wouldn't rank it better than Begins due to several script and shooting choices that made it overstay its welcome. Still a great installment.
Wall-E - My fave Pixar to date. Awesome story and characters.
Kung-Fu Panda - Wacky fun.
Quantum of Solace - The confirmation of Craig as the best Bond since Connery, with definitely darker overtones, complete 180 from the old series. Very welcome breath of fresh air for that aging franchise.
Burn After Reading - Simply put, the funniest dark humor comedy I've seen in years.
Average (ranging from "okayish" to "fun")
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Needs more Darabont, but still cool.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Yes, it was funny. I wouldn't buy it but it has its moments.
Cloverfield - Interesting exercise. Incidentally I'd love to get as much battery life in my Canon.
meh
Hancock - Average Will Smith vehicle.
Max Payne - Beautifully shot... and nothing much apart from that.
X-Files - I still can't believe I actually went to see that one.
Shutter - Heh. Yeah right.
Disappointing
Vantage Point - Nice idea but it just doesn't deliver. At the fourth rewind, it's just boring. At the seventh you want to come over to the director's house, chop his legs off, set fire to the house, and watch as he drags his bloody stumps out the door.
Body of Lies - Shouldn't I, I don't know, care for the characters or something? I made the controversial statement that it tries too much to be like Spy Game, and just can't. Redford and Pitt, just works. The chemistry between Crowe and Di Caprio is non-existent. Catch The Kingdom, it's better.
Vicky Christina Barcelona - Fuck, the best moment of that movie was when the celluloid caught fire during the end credits. True story, sums it all. The only redeeming performance comes from Penelope Cruz, who's great. Oh yeah, and the last scene is the one I could shoot from the opposite side of the street. The rest just plain sucks.
