Kanye is a complete retard, for the record, which just makes it all the more amazing that he's released by far one of the best albums of the year :D

I don't want to listen to it. Don't have anything against the man, per se, but trying to absorb a supposed album-of-the-year from a guy whose past work has been mostly invisible to me (I always thought it was just Daft Punk) would take way too much effort. Not trying to be a snob either, sometimes it's just fun to say fuck it and not care.
okay i'll probably listen at some point, once the hype dies down

That's exactly how I end up coming along 10 years later all "Hey have you guys ever heard of Opeth? They RULE" and stuff.
Aja on 23/12/2010 at 03:05
I'll talk about Opeth any time any place

Yeah, they were awesome. Pity they no longer exist in a form I have any interest in.

More serious Kanye album commentary: while MBDTF is a fucking monster (lol) of an album, I do wonder how much the current critical consensus that it is album of the year spawns from a combination of timing (it is the last great event album of the year to drop) and the power of Kanye's celebrity personality (it isn't just a great album, it's an great album from a controversial media whore who flashes the most charming smile imaginable while violently backhanding us).
Of course, drawing a line between public persona and art is probably futile in hiphop.

So who's going to let me in on the hipster in-joke that's LCD Soundsystem albums, because people saying they love this stuff are clearly being ironic, right? I've tried to penetrate both Sound of Silver and This Is Happening, finding the latter to be eminently more approachable than the former, but still mired by a "what the fuck" approach to songwriting and music. Great sound at times, but the lead singer is utterly terrible. He cannot sing. Songs like "They Wanted A Hit" irritate the living fuck out of me as I like 2/3 of it and even like the content of the lyrics but then it devolves into noise, seemingly to make a point? I fucking hate that shit.
I'm obviously missing something here. Someone clue me in to what is good about these guys.
edit: Drunk Girls pretty much speaks for itself though.
editedit: fully anticipate this post rankling the musical intelligentsia on here/ I'm only half-serious in the above post but I still don't get it.
