Not that it makes much difference but I think stealth was implemented as far as they wanted it to go. This isn't Thief in Space.

Yeah, the cameras...:tsktsk:
My first time playing, I got to the medical area, then kept getting attacked over and over by the hybrids. My first impression was that I must be missing something (weapon, ammo, exit, ??) because they just kept coming and coming, keeping me from exploring and figuring out what to do next. I got so frustrated that I "shelved" the game, intending to come back to it, but somehow not getting around to it for 2 years. Then, a "Which is better: SS2 or Deus Ex?" thread got me interested again. Having recently completed Deus Ex for the first time, the timing was right for a revisitation. I read something in one of the forums about disabling the cameras (AHA!!) and decided to look into it. I began a new game (to refresh my memory) and finished it in less than 2 weeks, which for me means that I really liked it. I don't want to resurrect that "Which is better" thread now, but I personally have a slight preference toward SS2 for its Sci-Fi creepiness, but I can definitely see how the two can be compared and debated.
....damn, this went long!

There are surprisingly few security cameras in the VB. On MedSci there are 3 in 2-2 and 5 in 2-1, not very impressive security system if you ask me.

Indeed. Stealth works in as much as that it is possible to avoid some fights, and it is encouraged to hack and avoid the cameras and turrets rather than fight everything that comes. It's got as much in the way of stealth features as they wanted it to have - and that's not a massive amount.

They did have a boatload of patrolling soldiers, and weren't expecting any real problems (certainly not alien infestation :p), I wouldn't have expected excessive security cameras...

I remember my first time. I was just exploring a bit, not really expecting any real enemies yet, and suddenly heard something behind me.
I turned around, saw a mutant running up to me screaming "I'm sooorrryyyyy!". I freaked out so much that I had trouble reacting in a useful way and died.
Didn't play again until three months later, because I was too scared to continue.
I had a pretty strange (and very freaky) experience the first time I played. The cutscenes weren't working so I was just thrown right in. I had turned around to go to one of the rooms as the first ghost appeared; so I just heard it and assumed it was a crew member (but it sounded like something weird had happened to him) trying to get to my side of the door. I found a psi-amp and assumed that I now had cryokinesis (not a good assumption to make at this point). I went over there expecting something strange to happen. When I opened the door, I didn't see or hear anything, so I thought I would cautiously peak to the right first. BAD MOVE!. The hybrid was RIGHT THERE TO THE LEFT. I could have sworn he said in a low breathy voice, "I tried," as he swung his pipe at me. I frantically tried to react and fire the psi-amp while being pummelled to death. I couldn't play for a while after that.
The hybrids can still do unexpected things. You get used to hearing them mutter about the song of the many, as well as there footsteps. But the other day I had just come to Hydro A, heard nothing out there, thought it was okay, went through the first door, and WHAM! A pipe hybrid was right there. He didn't say anything. He just swung at me right as I walked out the door. Scared the crap out of me.

I remember that bastard, Gordon Freeman talks more than he does. If I don't see him I get freaked out because it is hard to know where he will come from.

wow this thread blew up - not surprising
I still consider thief to be the scariest series of games because I'm a ghoster which means I have to let the enemies live and just creep around while listening to their heart-stopping freakish noises.
I think I could make it through ss2 once I had a pistol - but i never made it that far...close combat with zombies isn't my idea of fun :cheeky: -- Doom3 wasn't so bad because I knew even if something jumped out at me I could just blast it
and its audio/atmosphere that really gets me tense - I think ss2 had the best (worst?) ambience and villain noises

I'd pick 'best' if you want to get out of the SS2 forum alive. ;)

Hi all
I remember the first time I played The full version of Ss2, Medsci was easy as hell, but when I went through the bulkhead (end of the demo) I got freaked to hell, somehow, I got through. When I got the code for the main. shaft (so easy!) I ran there without stopping, then I noticed the robot was gone, I didn't play the game for the next 6 months, I didn't want to find the robot.
A quick overiew on how long it took me (each deck)
Deck 1- 1-2 years (cargo bays=wet chair)
Deck 2- 6 mounths (stupid robot)
Deck 3- 2 years (midwives)
Deck 4- 1-2 weeks (I'd gained confidence)
Deck 5- 3-5 days (assult rifle)
I could go on, but that would be boring the hell out of you guz
