I've done Doom3...I've survived the cradle in TDS, the bonehoard, the cathedrals...but...
A couple years back I picked up SS2 cheap at a store and installed it. I got as far as the first security camera, and while I stared at a bug-eyed figure hung by the neck from electrical cabling and freakish zombies pummelled me. I got through that, but then almost wet my pants being stalked by a mutant monkey. I couldn't handle it. And I couldn't mash the escape key fast enough. It was the audio that really got me. :shivers:
The next day I put it up for auction on Ebay. I wonder if there are any other stories like mine?

A lot of people have stopped after trying it for the first time, then later became hooked. The time in between ranges anywhere from a day to a few years. I haven't heard of people selling it because of the scariness yet. Did you play the game now?

Yeah.. I gotta admit, the first time is almost always a terrifying experience like no other. I played the demo when I was 10.. After getting killed by a pair of hybrids ( I ran like French border guard with a coupon for cigarettes past the first one ), I wouldn't leave basic training.

Wow! Scarier than the zombies in Thief 1? That's terrifying.
Oh man, I don't know if I can handle this. The Cradle creeped me out big-time!

My favorite scary moment is ducking with fear when a hybrid hit my character over the head with a pipe....
Gotta love headphones!
That and when I worked out what the hybrids were saying......

You're not implying that Doom 3 is scary, are you?

I still haven't made it through the game on my own - I need someone to kill things for me, especially those damn monkeys, while I sneak around slighly less paranoid for their absence.
And the scariest irony I found was actually when I tried the game with the respawn turned off. That made me more paranoid about the enemies, because there wouldn't be any unless I annoyed someone/thing....

I'm just learning the game, and I went as far as the first encounter room just figuring out how it's played.
from the noises I knew there was something in there, so I was extra cautious -- creeping fwd w/my wrench.
looking left of the doorway, I was clear, and so I looked right to find nothing there either.
suddenly, just as I was relaxing a little, some freaking zombie thing started attacking me from my left side, hissing "run, run.....!"
just about made me jump out of my chair.
I need that assault rifle.

Nope, you need balls. ;)

I remember my first time. I was just exploring a bit, not really expecting any real enemies yet, and suddenly heard something behind me.
I turned around, saw a mutant running up to me screaming "I'm sooorrryyyyy!". I freaked out so much that I had trouble reacting in a useful way and died.
Didn't play again until three months later, because I was too scared to continue.
