is it just me, or is this game too easy? ive been a hard-core gamer since i was 2, playing MGS after pre-k, but this game seems too easy. i have not come across anything i cannot beat. if i die, which is very rare, i beat that part the second time with ease. anyone post something that might make this game more fun and challenging....:erg:

There's a difficulty slider. Crank it up.

Start with the difficulty slider of course.
This game starts out VERY hard IMHO. Many many people have "complained" about this. Did you think the game was too easy when you started out? But like in Morrowind, it's possible to make a super character so that at some point things become much easier, yes. Thankfully it's not possible to make REALLY super characters, like Morrowind, and that's a BIG improvement that Oblivion has made. I can't imagine it's even possible to balance a game like Oblivion to take every player into account. Make it too hard at the end and people complain, just like they do now for the beginning of the game.
I would suggest moving the difficulty slider all the way over to the right and see how you like it. Really, the slider is *meant* to be used. I think the designers know very well that the game won't balance right for everyone and that's why they put it in there.
As far as your specific question goes, mods, I can't recommend any specific ones (maybe somebody else has a favorite). I think it depends on how exactly the game is too easy and in what ways the difficulty slider doesn't solve the problem (are you a magic wielder or a fighter? A thief?). Start by searching (
http://www.tessource.net) and see what mods catches your fancy, e.g.:
(
http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2551) Difficulty Scaler
This mod will make the hardest setting 5 times harder than normally hardest. and the easiest 5 times easier than normally easiest. just use the slider as usual, but remember, any change couts 5 times moreAnd if you find something you like share it with all of us.

I'm using Hand-to-Hand and Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod. It's proving quite a challenge. H2H damage is bumped up to a max of 16 or 17 damage in the OOO mod, but it's still a real challenge. I'm level 23 and haven't even found ebony armor yet. Luckily, Umbra had a suit to spare.

The problem is that there's no difficulty progression. Things are somewhat difficult near the beginning and they get very easy toward the end. Things should start out easy and progress from there, not the other way around.

I'm in the same boat. The game is pretty easy for me now and getting boring. It was quite nicely difficult at the beginning. I think next time I start a new character I will install one of those leveled mods that gives a chance of encountering very high level monsters early on.
Players are shrieking bloody murder over "leveled" enemies on the other forums. Saying the exact opposite, that as you gain in skills and experience, things ought to be easier because why else are you gaining those skills? It's a valid argument. On the other hand, it's bogus because now that I'm at level 21 things are too easy and the game is boring.
Somebody should target high level enemies to match the player's particular skills. How about some traps in the Oblivion planes that temporarily cancel out Chameleon or Shield? That way constant effect enchantments would still be fun but they wouldn't be there to ALWAYS get you out of trouble. Or a new enemy that can see you even if you're inivisible or chameleoned? Or new enemy spells that cancel shield constant enchantments?

Sure. I have several pieces of shielded armor, probably about 60% shield, and a couple of damage reflection trinkets. But most of all I have the Ring of Khajiti and the Cuirass of the Ranger that bestows about 50% CE chameleon. That, coupled with my 100% sneak and nothing puts me in danger anymore. When I shut down an Oblivion Gate I simply sneak the whole way through the plain without ever having to fight anything. For me, the difficulty slider I was preaching to you about has little or no effect on all of that.
I complain about the difficulty, like you, but am unwilling to simply stop using my enchanted goodies--that just wouldn't be fun to me either. Like I said, something to periodically nullify all enchantments might be a good start. Though if my feather enchantments suddenly stopped working that might put me in a difficult spot.

Changing the difficulty slider doesn't appeal to me. It's not that the game becomes that much harder, but it takes so damn long just to kill the daedra inside the gates. I don't have the patience to do that, even with the new and improved battle system.

Interesting. How about if the difficulty slider only adjusted the damage enemies did to you without touching their hit points?
Somebody make a mod!
