THE DEFINITION OF "BAD" WAS IN THE ORIGINAL POST
Okay, okay. He said "movies you know are shit but like anyway."
He wants us to just talk about real farts.
I don't really care enough to bother questioning that; sounds reasonable to me.
But I thought it was interesting what was going on FWIW, putting aside the debate itself for a moment. I tend to think whenever a thread goes in a very clear direction off from the OP, it usually means they're on to something, not necessarily something better, but it has its own life. And then it always raises the question, do you go with the trend or purge it back towards what the OP is asking. There was a definite trend here right off that people
wanted to salute movies they liked for the shameless grist, the tits and off-color jokes and ridiculous situations. It's not even stretching the definition of bad that much because the part about these movies they actually like can still respectably be called shit, though people understandably loved them for it and it's fair to call them great for it -- Schwarzenegger's career was built on this paradox. But it's still true a movie really needs to do more if it's going to truly "deserve" the label of a
bona fide "shit movie". I grant you that.
I guess my only observation is it seemed people were more proud of standing for the grist in it than the shit around it, and now you've taken their pony away.

As for your opinion of LotR, dear god do I not give anything resembling a fuck
I wrote all that out in an edit and then cut it out right after because it wasn't really relevant to anything I was saying, and you caught that edit ... Just to say I didn't cut it for this (which I hadn't seen yet).
Edit: But for posterity and to stand by it, I believe the term I used was: A bag of characters with inscrutable motivations touring arbitrary places, haha. Well, that's just because I never read the books. I did think it was a very pretty movie, and I have no doubt I'd be a big fan after reading the books.

Generally I'd agree, but in this case the only debate that has been generated (for the most part) is people disagreeing that a movie is "bad." It's coming to a head now with my posts, yeah, but "wtf that's actually a good movie" talk appeared as early as post two. In this case the off topic picks aren't generating discussion so much as confusion. If I start bombing the E-book/Reading Reccs thread with favorite passages from the Kindle User Guide, a dialogue will surely follow but that doesn't mean it holds any real merit.
This debate has probably now taken up more real estate than it really justifies it, but let's face it--naming shameful favorites is a far more interesting topic than appreciated genre gems, the latter of which rears its head in
every fucking film thread.

You guys covered most of it, but I wanted to add Hudson Hawk to the list.

Hudson Hawk is unappreciated.
I'm adding The Secret of My Success and Mannequin to the list.

Hudson Hawk was awesome... go Sandra Bernhard. I really admire that woman at times. Can't say I'm on the same page with her, but her outspokenness gives me a chuckle.
Added: (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060666/) Manos Hands of Fate
...but I only truly would enjoy it with MST3K, although I would watch how shitty it is even without Servo & Co. and see it through to the end. Torgo is worth it.

Hudson Hawk? More like Husdon Rock! That's one of the few movies that I own a copy of. Not bad. Very not.
Scots Taffer on 19/1/2011 at 23:51
Hudson Motherfucking Hawk starring Aston Kutcher's Dad. A truly worthy addition.
Let's be clear, it's cataclysmically awful but that's what gives the movie its dark, supernatural, soul-inhabiting powers.

They call me Trinity. Trinity is still my name. My name is nobody.
I still laugh at them but I'm not sure you can call purposely outrageous really bad.
