Like I said, awesome.

Hahaha, awesome. I remember he had crazy glass eyes. I need to revisit that movie.

It is quite clever and satirical in a lot of ways (the nastiness of the real world being one of the aspects), but the comedy just doesn't work most of the time. You're a beat behind the joke going 'Oh, that's funny' instead of laughing.
It doesn't help that it was beaten to most of its jokes by The Simpsons and (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3ENQT3le7k) The Late Show and no doubt countless others around the world and for some reason feels the need to have a precocious, bowl cut, tow headed kid (itself a trope they really needed to skewer) follow everyone around explaining the joke
every fucking time.
From memory it was in development for forever, so maybe that explains it. It was still way behind the curve when it needed to be sharp and way over the top when it needed to be subtle (What's with all the Gaultier wearing models for extras? There weren't any action movies like that at the time. Fifth Element was years away.
Actually, pause parentheses for a second. Too Bad to Turn Off: The Fifth Element
...It's got crazy action editing and colours of a Bay-esque sort
before Michael Bay. What the hell?)
Anyway, yeah it's not all bad. Still a big missfire.

Great call on that one. I'll never forget the mutant whose neck stretches after having water (was it water?) thrown on him.

Also, in the same vein of knowingly awful as Evil Dead 2 - 3, Planet Terror. Best watched with beer, kebabs, friends and women who alternately cry out with horror, then giggle and spill beer all over themselves.

Agreed, Fifth Element has a rating of 7.5 at IMDb. I'd say anything with a rating of over 7 is automatically disqualified from this thread. Ratings between 6.0 and 6.9 are debateable. I'm throwing my hat in with Uncle Stitch here, most of you are DOING THE BAD MOVIES THREAD WRONG :mad::mad: ADMIT TO LIKING SOME REAL PIECE OF SHIT OR SHUT UP :mad::o

You want a piece of shit? I love Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave starring Bruce Lea. Its so goddamned terrible you can watch the whole thing on youtube and its so hilarious to be worth it. I bought it on the magazine rack of a Family Dollar and it was well worth the money.
