The damage has mostly been done before the Pilgrims even landed. The natives they encountered had already been decimated by disease from far-straying English fishermen, who are also the reason there were natives that knew some English. If the Pilgrims had all starved to death, I don't think things would have been that different. There had been failed colonies before (Jamestown, Roanoke) so there probably would have been more had Plymouth failed. Downright hostility to foreigners might have done the trick, as it did with the Vikings.

Unfortuantely I've made a hypocrite of myself, because I didn't have any Pumpkin pie yesterday. Instead, I've discovered the new ultimate dessert:
