New alpha:
(
http://iki.fi/sol/solvbe_alpha_060304.zip)
Some small fixes and OpenGL scaling, so one can now play terra nova in a fullscreen window. This should be the last daily version for a while (unless I get some actual feedback on this, that is). There's still a lot to do, such as the tweaked modes etc..
To play TN, perform the following steps:
1. Install VDMSound
2. Copy SolVBE.exe and SolVBE.dll into the tnova directory
3. Create a batch file by the name of tnsolvbe.bat in the TNOVA directory, and enter the following two lines there:
-- 8< -- 8< --
SolVBE
__ff
-- 8< -- 8< --
4. Right-click on the batch file and click on "run with vdmsound".
5. Enjoy.

great stuff. finally i get to play this game. even on my old box i didn't get it to run, but now...
one thing though. how do i enable the fullscreenmode? it starts always in a window.

There's no actual "full screen" mode yet; but you can resize the window. (There's still quite many things I have to do before this is finished, but it's usable now - I'm at mission 13 or so..)

All very cool, Sol.
Is this aimed at a particular version of Windows? or is VDMSound a requirement? The latter seems unlikely, but I don't have VDMSound installed and I'm getting an error from SolVBE so I thought I'd check!
My system specs are: Win98se, DirectX 9.0b, 800Mhz Athlon Thunderbird, Asus A7V motherboard, 256MB RAM, GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB video card with ForceWare v56.55 drivers, SB Live Value sound card.
The error I get is as follows:
Quote:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be terminated [...]
The program tried to execute an invalid instruction.
Fault location: 08F1:00EE
Interrupts in service: None
Terra Nova has always run just fine on my system, however, so it's not an especially urgent problem :)

Sorry, win2k or winxp is required. I've only tested winxp myself, though, so I'm not even sure if win2k works =)
As for vdmsound, the winxp SB emulation is so bad that the animations stutter with it. vdmsound works much better.
As for progress, the next version already includes real fullscreen mode and several other improvements, but I'd rather not make a new release every day..

i can confirm that it works on w2k. i got sp4 but replaced the ntvdm.exe with the one from sp3. the sp4 ntvdm.exe doesn't work well with the vesa option in vdmsound. i testet it with solvbe and the sp3 ntvdm.exe runs the game much smoother. but maybe it's only a problem with my system.
