Tip: How to launch non-debug build of the game directly from the editor - by Mandrake

Hi All,
Discovered something that some of you may find useful. If you run your map from the editor by clicking the Joystick icon, it runs it in the debug build of the game that gives rather low frame rates, and no sound in full screen.
I've found an easy way to make use of the Build -> Send to XBox menu option, which currently does nothing useful.
Go to your \Games\Thief3Edit\System directory, and create a batch file called:
xbreboot.bat
And in the file place one line:
T3MainReleaseVersion.exe AutoPlay
And save.
Now when you want to test a map, click Build All as normal, and you have a choice of clicking the Joystick icon to run it in the debug build (which is slow with no sound in fullscreen, sometimes crashes, but has a debug console) or simply go to:
Build -> Send To Xbox to launch the normal version of the game :thumb:
(Good if you're trying to evaluate framerate performance, or hear what AI's are saying...)
This way there is no need to Build All, run the debug version of the game with the Joystick icon, then exit, then run the normal version from a desktop shortcut, which is what I was previously doing...

You may be a genius.

Well done that man!
So fps should be increased? oh, oh....dear. Less pretty, more speed needed for my creations :erg: Thanks for the tip

Brilliant.
If this rate of clever troubleshooting continues, we'll have this rampaging wild beast tamed and eating from our hands in no time flat!
(although... I'd guess the real challenges are still ahead, like figuring out how to create and import static meshes without 3dsmax 5.1...) :erg:

That works! Thank you, Mandrake. But I have a strange problem.
While in non-debug mode Fraps shows 80-100 fps in my 'level', yet I have 'lags' when I move. This problem was not present in debug mode. Does anyone has any idea what causes these 'lags'?

It's just ironic how we're going to be using, excessively the "Send to XBox" option from now on, after most of us have been bashing the XBox port all this time. Isn't anyone else amused? :laff:
Great work, though. :thumb:

Yes, it's pretty funny. If I click the "Send to XBox" menu item 20 times a day for a couple of years, what will that do to my fragile psyche?

Does that mean we're now developing maps for the XBox? ;)
Thanks for that very handy shortcut, Mandrake.

Works for me too, but I get lagging all over and in any version, bukary. It would be nice if someone has a junk/test mission they've built that they know works fine and at high framerates and let me see if it runs ok on my system.
I can't get better than about 15fps in my test missions, but the original game still works just fine. I'm hoping it's just my sloppy newbie building techniques and having a working test mission might help convice me that there is hope for me building a T3 FM.
Anybody have a basic couple dozen rooms built that works fine on their system I could look at?
