At some point in Morrowind you've probably found that you can't move because you're overloaded, looked at your inventory and noticed that you were carrying about 30 pounds of petty soul gems. How annoying. The most efficient way that I've found to fill them up is to create a spell or an enchanted item with the following effects:
- Summon Skeleton for 2 seconds
- Soultrap on target for 2 seconds
- Drain Health on target 40 points for 1 second
Make sure that the trap and drain are on target, not touch. Touch doesn't work.
Now just stand there and cast the spell. A skeletal minion will appear, then fall over dead, and you'll have filled a petty soul gem in one easy step (as opposed to summoning, trapping and killing in 3 steps). Keep casting until you run out of magicka, then rest and repeat. The really nice thing is that this spell costs less than casting the standard Summon Skeletal Minion spell, never mind the cost of casting a standard Soul Trap.
You can also construct versions of this spell for other summoned critters to fill other sizes of soul gems, but remember that daedra and atronarchs have a spell reflection ability that will sometimes cause the process to fail.
Happy enchanting.
