Nothing has made me laugh so hard for weeks.

No no no, Iceland is one of the few (three I think) Civilised countries on earth. Plus the volcanic ash makes for a pretty sunrise/sunset depending on your location. Slow down. Sit back and enjoy.
Deathtoll: Thanks for the pic. That one goes in my face collection.

Ok try this for size :cheeky:
Ay (as in say)-ya- fyalla- yock- ull hmm not that hard :sly:
Not too shabby.
Though I'm not sure if 'ck' is too fitting, a simple k would do. And do you by any chance know how the "harsh L" (two L in a row) is pronounced? I don't think that sound even exists in English.
Perhaps you could download or record that sound clip Enchantermon linked to and slow it down a bit. :p

I'm fascinated by this volcano- perhaps I'd be more annoyed if I actually felt any direct effects from it, but meh. But it's amazing and humbling to me to think that there's nothing we can do to stop it- there's barely anything we can do to tell when it may stop.

We could nuke it from orbit.

Lots of people complaining because their travel plans have unraveled a bit - but unsympathetic me kinda thinks that if you travel thousands of miles then you kinda risk getting stuck a long way from home. Obviously it doesn't happen very often, but there's a very obvious element to the risk also. I think people are a bit complacent dumb for expecting to be able to scoot halfway across an entire planet and not think that something might go astray.
Talking of also - the skies have been fantastic. Air travel should be banned on Sundays or something so we can enjoy the quiet and contrail empty vistas.
Also Volcanoes are kinda groovy on a number of counts - other than being both menacingly sleepy and awesomely violent they're inevitable if you're going to have plate tectonics and a magnetic field - and funnily enough if you don't have tectonics and thus a magnetic field the solar wind ends up blowing the atmosphere off into space and planes then can't fly anyway because Bernoulli's principle stops working - not least because Bernoulli would never have existed.
But otherwise volcanoes are a bit of a nuisance and yeah, we should nuke 'em lest any more weddings have to be rearranged dammit.

This is a
very intelligent option... indeed
Gingerbread Man on 21/4/2010 at 20:42
Not really. Getting to orbit is the big obstacle. With or without nukes.
I can get to Greenland, though. We can nuke Iceland from there, probably. We'll need a pretty big trebuchet.
