Do you mind how heavy it is? within reason of course.
fortuni on 8/6/2015 at 15:02
not really, it never goes anywhere
Renzatic on 8/6/2015 at 15:15
Never? If that's the case, why get a laptop? If it's compactness you want, have you considered an All-In-One?
fortuni on 8/6/2015 at 15:31
because i live on a boat, so although i will not be taking it anywhere, i want to use my one and only table/surface for eating at, writing, etc, so i want to be able to put it away when necessary.....but i did have a thought of building a dedicated computer desk in one corner of my boat, are all-in-one's very much superior to laptops, do you get more for your money and more importantly do they last longer than the apparent 4-5 years you seem to get out of laptops, if so that is an option yes

Honestly, I don't know too, too much about AIOs as far as reliability goes. I'd assume that since you're paying a fairly high price for one, they're more than likely built using quality parts. This is something we'll all have to research.
I'd say that as far as overall oomph goes, they've got a slight edge over laptops, since they usually use desktop CPUs in conjunction with mobile GPUs. Besides Apple, I've heard Dell has the most solid AIO machines. (

Ok, so here is a best bang for buck from PCS £818,00 £ including vat and Delivery. This a very good all-round machine that will give you a certain amount of future proofing. You could knock £100+ off that price by selecting a GT940 and the 1366*768 screen.

bikerdude....you are one incredible man....they all look fantastic and any one of them will do but, i almost certainly go for a bigger screen, and with Renztic's advise i now realise i do not need to get a more powerful machine than what i already have, its more than likely that just about everything will better than my current machine even at the same specs, i don't think i want less spec than what i have at the moment, even if its over kill....so i think the cosmos from PCSpecialist will be what i go for ....hey but i like john lewis....again customer service second to none
ps will never buy from Dixon Group plc....nightmare to deal with if anything goes wrong after just 4 weeks and their in house repair guys are just useless....only ever want to take your machine back to factory settings
thank you both so much for helping someone who just is utterly clueless...:thumb:
Ps Bikerdude have you any thoughts about W10 ? seeing my machine is not dying at the moment i could string it out for 2-3 months...is W10 going to be a significant improvement on W8....does the grape vine report positive things ?

I'm on Win10 right now, and it's basically Win7 with all the good bits of 8 throw in, polished up with some UI features I've been wanting to see in Windows for years now. Scroll on mouse hover! Expose! Virtual desktops! Notifications! ABOUT DAMN TIME!
If you're coming straight from 7, the most jarring charnge would probably be the new Start menu. But it's not so different that it won't take you any more than 5 minutes to get used to it.
