TBE, that's very interesting about reading with your glasses on, Tim needs glasses too and I've always wondered why he takes them off to read. I'll have to ask if reading gives him a headache. He does it even if he has a fresh new prescription, so it isn't that they don't have it right.
Both my husband's migraine doctor and Tim's said that if you get one more than once a week you should take a preventative. They both take one, though they are different ones; and my husband's migraines have gone down significantly, so far it seems that Tim's have too. My husband's didn't start until his thirties, so you aren't the only one where it started late. I had to insist pretty severely that he go to the doctor the first time, that it wasn't normal to get headaches that severe several times a week. It turned out to be a good thing, because the doctor said that if you just use normal painkillers to treat migraines it can actually cause something called a rebound headache, which is very hard to treat. So good for you finding Imetrix. My husband uses Maxalt when he feels a migraine start (the preventative isn't perfect) and it helps a lot. It's a similar drug to Imetrix I think.
Yes, ibuprofen can be a stomache irritant, and I can understand a school, particularly an elementary school wanting the nurse to dispense it; but it seems overkill that each student has to have their own bottle so every pill can be counted. And that you'd want to keep track during the day so a student didn't accidently get too much; but again, keeping the records for the whole year rather than just a day seems a bit much. Plus, the older the kid, the more discretion they should have. I think that by eighth grade a girl can make her own determination if she needs one for cramps for example.

I know schools are really anal with this stuff but consider this - a child develops a gastrointestinal bleed and there are no records as to how much ibuprofen was in the school surgery at the beginning of the day. They could be held liable. That means a massive amount of disruption, money spent, time wasted, and stress for those held responsible.
Recording it can prove that a small amount or none has gone and that the likely source of the OD is from a non-school source.
tbh you have to blame the culture. Everyone practices defensive medicine these days. Really annoys me.

Yeah, the glasses even bother me with a fresh prescription. There's a visual change between glasses and contacts. When you move your eyes with contacts, you're always getting about the same vision. When you move your eyes around with glasses, you're getting different parts of the refraction of the lens. I find driving with glasses is ok, but looking around on a computer, tv, or book makes my eyes very fatigued.
Another big problem with summer coming up is the dehydration factor that always seems to trigger migraines in me if I'm stressed. Drink plenty of water Timmy!

I get chronic migraines. They suck ass.
My doctor's advice: when you feel them coming on, take a painkiller (I use eccedrin) immediatlly. This works pretty well for me - if I carry them around with me and take them instantly it prevents it from getting very bad.

Excedrin Migraine works very well. When Ibuprofen sometimes fails me.

Yep, you need to catch them right away. And the dehydration effect is one my husband finds is a trigger too.
I had someone random I met today recommend UVA blocking glasses, he said they help his migraines.

Oh the poor little guy! I had migraines when I was younger, but I outgrew them (in my thirties). I so hope Tim will, too.
Now I get sinus headaches instead.

Interesting note on the differences between Excedrin Migraine,Excedrin back and body and regular Excedrin. Simply put..there isn't any. no difference whatsoever.
Next time you're at the store, look at the ingredient list.
But if you THINK you feel better taking Excedrin migraine, then by all means.
The only actual difference is in the packaging.
