That'll slow things down too much. Sometimes you have 5 people answering in that time and taking the fun out of heated discussions is not something anyone should aim for.
FASTEDIT: Also I don't want to constantly hit the answer-button just to see when I'm allowed to do it.

Granted. But, in those heated discussions, chances are that what you've already replied to has already been edited, much like you previously said. Furthermore, people replying to you post won't get what you replied to etc.

True but as it is now you can't even see their edits as there mostly is no notice. I have no problem with editing my post myself to acknowledge another edit above. I just hate to miss something because then discussions can get really tedious and you end up looking like an idiot when you realize ten posts later that someone had edited his post adding/changing information that determined the course of he thread.

I find that's usually easy to guess by what they say unless it's something like: "You suck!" without any explanation who it was aimed at. But then again who wants to know?

I didn't say "old fart" to Gray. I said "lame fart" in a figurative way like anyone who is as slow as I am answering a post sometimes is one.
