My favorite space sim is getting updated!
I understand that people privilege different elements of space sims which would make them prefer one over another. For me, a deep economy and real empire building (in the sense you're really impacting a real economy) are what I really like--along with pure exploration and some politics, story, & missions when you want them. Those are things that X4 does really well and that I find lacking in the other usual suspects, but I wouldn't say X4 is for everybody into space sims.

I'd be lying if I said that part of me wasn't inordinately excited.

Yes! Thimbleweed Park was pretty damn good -- can't wait what kinds of ideas have been brewing in Ron Gilbert's head for this one for all these years.

Is no one else excited about the new Lego Star Wars game, or am I the only one who's willing to admit it? :D
I'm not hyped enough to pre-order it or anything, I'll probably even wait until it's on sale, but I'm definitely getting it some time soon. It seems to be getting great reviews too. Maybe the Lego games aren't serious enough for most gamers, but I love the casual nature and the light-hearted humour of those. Lego Lord of the Rings for example was pure gold. There are plenty of "serious games" already and the real world is also serious enough for me right now, so I'd rather play something more fun for a change.

Me and my wife, we greatly enjoyed the Lego games for a while, but we kinda burned out on them. There were just so many, and while each was cool and fun, you're still doing the same thing over and over and over again. Which is also true for other games, but after the fourth or fifth Lego game we'd sort of seen it.

the only good lego game is the Lego City one on the WiiU. That is a hill I am willing to die on.

Oh, I agree with that. The Lego games are one of the few games that I've managed to get my wife to play, but we've had plenty of fun with those. We've never even bothered trying to find all the collectibles and stuff, just getting through the main story is challenging enough when you play with someone who has no clue about video games. :D We've only played the few that we find interesting; Star Wars, Indiana Jones, LotR, Harry Potter. Anyway yeah, they're all practically the same game, just the gameworld and the characters change. But like you pointed out, isn't that what many popular franchises do, Assassin's Creed for example?

Are you talking about Lego City Undercover? Never played that one, but it looks like it could be fun. :) Gonna buy it if it ever hits the bargain bin again.
