I really enjoyed DL1 and was looking forward to DL2 a lot, but will probably do the same.
It's rare I play stuff on day 1 these days just because so many games seem to launch with work left to do.

FYI, the GmanLives [corrected] video raved about story and saying how it has some of the most meaningful, path-altering choices he has seen in games, and how no 2 playthroughs are really the same.
Made me super confused after seeing all the other reviews about the story, lol

I wonder whether it's one of those times where the best storylines are gated behind specific paths, a la Fallout.

Well if no one else is buying DL2 I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and jump in. Downloading on PS5 now. Only 21GB, surprisingly slim for a modern AAA open world game(I'm not complaining). Oddly enough the PS4 download was 31GB. Hmm, I'm guessing maybe because it includes different assets for base PS4 and Pro versions?

Must have misremembered his video (mentioned in the (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151639) other thread) as he seemed to be most impressed with the parkour - maybe I didn't get to the end of the video...

Narratively it sucks, unfortunately, and while I don't think it's going to be a killing blow for many, it's going to be a killing blow for some, and it kinda was for me in some ways. My overall enjoyment of this experience was greatly undermined by having to sit through 40 hours of badly written story and characters

You're right, I mixed him up with (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBB9i23r87s) GManLives who said stuff like:
Quote:
just really tests your mental fortitude forcing the player to make frequent narrative decisions which have really profound effects on how story events ultimately pan out
...
there's just so many options you can take here it's just mind-blowing
...
i mean even the random little npc conversations you're going to come across are likely to differ from play to player
...
although paths are going to converge i think a lot of people are going to have very different experiences when they play through this i was speaking to a mate of mine who was playing through this at the same time as me and we soon realized we were almost playing entirely different games and the characters i'd interacted with and the scenes i'd experienced were nothing like what he'd played

I like that trailer. It has the feel of the old Telltale games, but it uses cinematic means in a much more accomplished way. Obviously the game's going to stand or fall on the quality of the writing and performances more than anything else, but towards the end of old Telltale I grew tired of the corners they cut when it came to presentation. The individual scenes started feeling very rushed: stock shot here, stock camera perspective there, add stock reaction animation (surprise! anger! sadness!). These games don't have to be cutting edge in terms of the tech, but I remember getting tired especially with the facial animations.
