They've apparently said they're going for a more "realistic" sci-fi feel for Starfield,

and that it's going to be a bit more of a "hardcore RPG" than recent Bethesda titles, e.g. closer to their earlier games.
BOO! At least BOO if it extends to the combat gameplay. I dont wanna be shooting baddies and have the outcome be determined by random dice rolls. The combat in Bethesda games have been evolving in the right direction (more action-y, less RPG-y) and I really don't wanna see them backsliding on this.

I doubt they'll go back to RNG-based combat; I was more thinking that it would mean a reversal of the trend to remove systems (like how they removed stats in Skyrim, and skills in Fallout 4.)
Here's another trailer for pile:

Another trailer with lots of loud music and action that doesn't show any gameplay, but... it's Piranha Bytes, we already know exactly what the gameplay will be.
Elex was a solid if slightly bland take on "Gothic IN THE FUTURE", so this will presumably be more of the same.
Certainly something I'll buy and play at some point.

Redfall, by
Arkane Studios.
Looks kind of like a slightly scif-fi Vermintide / Left 4 Dead type of co-op vs AI horde shooter.
Now that they have MS' warchest hopefully this will be the last of "we better make a box ticketing MP/live service games, designed for long term easy monetisation, to starve off studio closure" titles from Arkane. This, Wolfenstein Youngblood and Deathloop reek of desperation.

A reimagining of Final Fantasy 1, starring the cast of The Fast and The Furious. Worth it for the meme value alone.

I don't see anything about Deathloop that reeks of desperation (unless "making a game that looks and feels like Arkane but isn't copying Looking Glass or Ion Storm Austin" is a desperate move somehow), and we know basically nothing about Redfall other than that it involves different character classes fighting vampires with guns and magic. From what I know of Youngblood, which I own but haven't played yet, the level design was pretty great and I think the assumption is that that was the bit Arkane worked on.
EvaUnit02 on 15/6/2021 at 21:17
We had investigative journalism reports that Arkane were on shaky foundations after Dishonored 2, Death of the Outsider and Prey bombed. Zenimax didn't know what to do with them, hence assisting on those Wolfenstein spin-offs. The MS buy out might've very well saved them from closure (or from being downgraded into a BGS support studio).

The rogue-lite gameplay loop is ripe for monetising through MTXs.

True, but it's giving off HEAVY vibes of being a Left 4 Dead-esque co-op horde shooter and/or asynchronous Vs. MP w/ hero shooter classes. Games like that can be easily monetised out of the ass. Eg have endless DLCs with new playable classes for the humans and the hero monsters; having annual season passes and/or seasonal battle passes; etc. See Rainbow Six Siege and Dead by Daylight for good examples.
Hype for Advance Wars 1 & 2 remake.

The trailer didn't impress me, and I'm not into FF anyway (haven't played any of them, though I'm thinking about it), so I ignored this game, but now I'm watching streamers play the demo, and man... this is basically a mod for Nioh 2. :) The combat flow is straight out of Nioh, and I'm even seeing familiar animations. I loved that franchise, so,
now I'm interested in this game. :D

The weird sailing vehicle simulator FAR is getting a sequel.
They made a sequel to FAR and didn't call it FARTHER? :tsktsk:

I kind of get a kick out of how this promo doesn't even look like it's trying to sell a retro game. It's just like a company that disappeared in 1987 suddenly reappears 35 years later & is making a hot new sim for 1988 without missing a beat.

Yeah I've been admiring this on twitter for a while now. Very SU-27 Flanker! Just to clarify, the developer is (
https://twitter.com/Why485) Why485. MicroProse is publishing. Not the original MicroProse of course, the name (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroProse#Brand_revival_(2019%E2%80%93present)) is being revived by ex-Bohemia Interactive dev David Lagettie who's started publishing simulators under the name.
Quote:
Lagettie had been a fan of the original MicroProse games growing up, and as he saw the games ownership transition made the company eventually disappear, he started investigating the fate of MicroProse around 2005. When possible, he began buying whatever IP from MicroProse he could, including the name and original logo trademarks, allowing him to establish the new MicroProse as a games publisher by 2019.
