Uglified = Less attractive. And as some men like big boobs that change would result in the character being less attractive to them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Mmm, but by that standard,
any change could be less attractive for
someone. Tifa's chest going from "grotesque" to merely "large" probably made her
more attractive on average. It's very difficult to believe in some sort of across the board "uglification" going on if making Tifa (and Lara Croft for that matter) look
better is the signature example.

Let's also note that Tifa is a terrible example of this, because the idea behind it was for her to not have jubbling jubblies bazoinging around the screen while she was moving - she's athletic, and most women athletes wear a sports bra. This is practicality winning over the male gaze, so it's not even an argument -- not that the core topic ever should ever be taken seriously as an argument.

Actually, it's about chest ethics.
Who would have thought that redesigning a character to fit a more realistic setting is not some huge conspiracy people make it out to be. But that doesn't fit the antifeminist rhetoric of reactionary gamers, so it's apparently more plausible to them that the multimillionaires who own these big game companies are suddenly going against their financial interests by bowing down to feminists and having the studios make female characters "uglier".
On a further note, do people think Japan is some magical fairyland where anything goes? That the notoriously strict and conservative CERO (that has developers turn female characters upside down to ensure there would be no accidental panty flashes) is somehow more accepting of sexualised themes and characters?
And, to be clear, game studios aiming for certain age ratings has nothing to do with feminism either and everything to do with conservative groups worried about entertainment, which is why these ratings boards were established in the first place.

Should character models be designed to satisfy men (as PigLick asked) - That is a separate topic. But character models being changed to be less attractive in western games dev / localisation has been going on for a while now. The changes to Lara Croft for example (for all releases in this case) in the reboot series.
This is the stupidest "controversy" ever.
I've seen the Tifa stuff now and the character is still conventionally very attractive and very sexualised.
Please explain how Laura Croft, who now looks much more realistic and not like a blocky computer game character, is now less attractive.

Even if someone found the enormous breasts - or, for that matter, the low-poly models - more attractive, it is supremely silly to think that 1) the updated model is objectively more ugly (or indeed women in more recent games are more ugly than women in games ten years ago), 2) it is less feminine (are actresses like Audrey Hepburn or Alicia Vikander inherently less feminine than the women in a Russ Meyer film? is femininity derived by some sort of linear correlation with breast size?), and especially that 3) this is the result of evil feminists taking dem boobs away from us poor lads and therefore altogether bad.

Good lord, who gives a shit if a woman in a game is hot or not. Could people conform more to the "35 year old dude living in their mom's basement wanking it to Mass Effect 2 sex scenes" stereotype.

Night Trap is on Steam now if people are desperate for jerking material.

I'm there, brah.
Anyway, I once again broke my rule about not buying games still in early access by buying a game in early access. I had a hankering for a good oldschool FPS, and I just couldn't resist the Quakey goodness that Wrath: Aeon of Ruin exuded.
So I got it, spent a few hours with it, beat the 4 levels available, and have come to the conclusion that it is rad.
If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it most reminds me of the Arcane Dimensions mod for the original Quake. It's similar in style and structure, with a hub world that connects to these massive, sprawling levels that take a good couple hours to complete. Each map has hundreds of little nooks and crannies to explore, multiple branching pathways that lead you throughout the map, though as big and complicated as they are, you never get lost in them. You always have an idea of where to go. It's brilliantly put together.
Everything about it is just awesome. The mood, the atmosphere, the art style, the weapons, the enemies, it's all top notch stuff. It feels like a proper, professionally made game, not just a souped up Quake 1 mod.
It's also hard as hell. The enemies are relentless, constantly spamming you with withering fire, and harassing the hell out of you every chance they get.
If you want a difficult, awesome, well designed Quake 1 style game, get it. It is good.
Edit: Here's a video of my favorite of the four maps: The Gardens.
