That seems like a very strange thing to say when describing the sequel to the original Half-Life, which was often more about the travel than the combat.
It's true, though. HL2, including the episodes, was
never as good at being HL1 as HL1 was, and they're kind of at their weakest when they're trying. Does seem neat
other stuff, though.
Speaking of which Gryz, I know the AntLion tunnels are dull, but when you get out it improves a lot, and the battle at the end is worth pushing through to, even though it's rather difficult.

HL2 was OK.
I have to say, I loved it. I thought the atmosphere and design was great, the physics was a brilliant new aspect to the mechanics and the gravity gun a blast (boom boom).
But the vehicle bits were amongst my favourite. It's easy to dismiss it now, but at the time it really was very fresh. I remember struggling with the DRM over my rubbish connection in the student house. It was a terrible (great) distraction.

Sometimes I wonder if something is wrong with me. :) There have hardly been any films in the last 10 years that I liked. (I used to love films up to then). Is it me ? Of course I do watch and enjoy tv-series (much more fun and much more interesting than films these days).
I kind of get you. A lot of films look like the dullest trash to me. I saw an ad for Birds of Prey today. Gawd it looks like nonsense. Mind you, I turned Suicide Squad off about 15 minutes in I think.

games I have installed over the last 2-3 years. But I have never played more than 1-2 hours of those games. All I've played and finished since 2015 was... ...The Witness... ... ...all 3 Dark Souls games.
I get you. I have loads I dipped into and then didn't bother anymore with. Finished The Witness??! More power to you. I love it but I've never finished it. I took a break because of something (moving house?) and when I went back I'd forgotten the rules. I mean to play it from scratch again. But you finished all DS games? I think you've just become more discerning. Many games don't appeal to me anymore. Just pick them right.

I not only finished all 3 DS games, I even got platinum with all 3. :) I even did a SL1 run in DS3. I killed the Dancer (surprise), Pontiff (bigger surprise) and even Aldritch (that was a huge suprise for me). I stopped when I was at Friede, Lothric (aka the Twins) and the Nameless King. Can you imagine ? And old guy, playing with a joystick (and trackball). :p One day I will continue that run and kill Soul of Cinder at lvl1.
I really liked the games. My cup of tea. Not because of the challenge. Not because of the difficulty. Just because of the atmosphere, and the fact that the games are just huge journeys through the game's worlds. When the games were released, the videos and screenshots looked awesome. I wanted to play those games. But the reputation of hard and harsh kept me from buying the games. When I finally took the jump, and started playing DS1, it did take me some time to get adjusted to each game. Now I've got Demon Souls working in RPCS3. But as that is a true PS3 emulator, I can't play DeS with trackball and mouse. Only with a controller. I bought a controller, played a bit with it, but I can't get the hang of it. Maybe later. Or maybe From Software will release Demon Souls (and BB) for PC/Windows in the future.
I never enjoyed vehicles in games. On the contrary actually. Maybe that's another reason why HL2 didn't click with me. Only in GTA5 I enjoy riding around in a car. The Witness is a nice game. Very relaxing. Most puzzles aren't that hard. And when you are a completionist (as I was trained to be by World of Warcraft), you just keep going once you are half-way.
I played a bit more of HL2E2 this week. I got visited by an old friend. Maybe the game will get more interesting now. I think I'm 40% through the game, so I'm sure I will finish it one of these days. Not sure what will be next.
I quit my job a year ago (goddamn Belgians drove me crazy after 3 years). Since then I've been writing some code for my self. (As therapy. I wrote 32k lines of hardcore C code in ~half a year, spread out over 10 months. I probably need another 3-6 months to finish what I'm building, so I get something that I can show to others). To be honest, writing code over the last year has been more fun than most games. Whenever I want to sit behind my screen and enjoy myself, I find myself doing some coding, in stead of starting a game. That's actually much better, I think. But it is a sign that games don't interest me much anymore, these days.

Lately I've been looking into Generation Zero, a stealth exploration robot shooter, mainly because it takes place in Sweden (during the 80s), which is rare. It looks great and I think I would like the exploration part, but apparently there is not much of a story and I would probably soon lose interest in the shooting robots part, so I don't think the game is worth getting for me.

A build of Starcraft Ghost, cancelled stealth action console game, has been leaked online. Apparently it works well in CXBX-Reloaded, OG Xbox emulator for Windows. The game doesn't look too bad, judging by Youtube clips.
It's funny, this might've actually been released onto the market by today's Blizzard, who're a shit company with low quality standards.

I didn't even notice that Crusader Kings 3 was announced to come out this year. I was still happy playing CK2; not sure how much this new one is adding. But I guess it's time.
The thing is ... the thing is ... my favorite Paradox game is Victoria 2 and it came out in 2010, and CK2 came out in 2012. So I'm miffed that Victoria 3 isn't coming out. But I'll take CK3.
