Didn't we give you a whole thread just for your dumb complaints and grievances? Please keep it there instead of stinking up my hype thread, thank you.

What's the point in celebrating the demise of video game studios? You can always just, you know, not buy the games of studios you don't like. For example, I haven't played an Assassin's Creed since the first one, and I'm pretty much totally unaffected by the fact that they keep making them anyway.

Yes, seriously, nobody here cares about this kind of stuff except for him. And it certainly doesn't qualify as "hype."

Bloomberg published an interesting article about Silksong's development:
(
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-08-21/why-silksong-team-cherry-s-sequel-to-hollow-knight-took-so-long-to-make) Why ‘Silksong' Took Seven Years to Make
If I could sum it up in a term, it wasn't development hell but something that'd more fairly be called development heaven. They had the resources, inspiration, and ideas reservoir to really slow cook it, and they're open about the feature creep.
I wrote just that it was a case of "development heaven" in a post somewhere and got a lot of positive feedback (positive in the sense that people figured it was a sign of unadulterated good for the game) , but I myself was more neutral on it. It sounds like a nice thing and I believe the team when they say it was a nice experience, but -- and let me back up and say I don't believe only artists that have to suffer for their art can make good art -- but I do think there's something about having one's feet put to the fire at least a little that can bring out good work in any field and not having that pressure can lead to feature creep & a feeling like things aren't coming together, and things like Duke Nukem Forever, Star Citizen, & Daikatana are legendary examples of that.
But above even that I believe you could cherry pick examples that show very different kinds of development environments have led to both good and bad games. So I don't want to make any predictions here. I just wasn't as fired up as people responding to my post were that "development heaven" necessarily means it'll be an awesome game if that's the main data point. All of that said, it of course still looks great and Hollow Knight is a great foundation to build off of. So it has a lot still going for it. As always we'll see.

(Unfortunately that link above to the Bloomberg story is behind a pay wall, FYI)
I saw an interesting comment by one of the devs, maybe it was from the article linked above, but he said something to the effect of "delaying Silksong built up the hype to the point where the original game started selling in bigger numbers, thus funding a longer development time for Silksong." That's kind of an interesting self fulfilling prophecy type of thing.
I'm not saying they intentionally delayed the launch, just that the longer than intended dev cycle had an interesting side effect of actually allowing them to take their time and make the game even better.
