That's actually a kind of clever dev concept to deal with a fundamental limitation.
Gamify the limitation itself as a challenge for the player to solve.

Seemingly censorship free, 1:1 remake by chad Chinamen. Very optimistic for this!

I'm only going off memory, but those cutscenes all look like a 1:1 recreation of the original. I know the initial trailer blitz from earlier confirmed that approach, but I remain impressed at the commitment to faithfulness even when it looks ludicrous with the more realistic visuals. Speaking of faithfulness, they're also putting in the Ape Escape bonus from the original PS2 release? Very cool. Hopefully the ridiculous details (like The End dying of old age if you set the system clock ahead, or spinning the camera around Snake violently for long enough making him barf) make it, too.
They also redid the Boss's model, and tweaked Snake's face as well, I think - not bad. All that's left to be seen is how well it performs (UE5 - so probably not great) and plays.

Oh I can't take anything near that frenetic. Sheesh what are these kids on? The first Mirror's Edge hit the exact sweet spot, and then they done screwed up their own winning formula in the sequel, and there hasn't been a good parkour game since. I wish there were.

Have you played Lemma or Neon White? I have them and haven't gotten to them, but they look like they might scratch some of that Mirror's Edge 1 itch. I will always agree with how great that game was though, and how equally disappointing the sequel was. The first ME is one of the few games that I rank right next to stuff like the big 3 imsims (Thief/SS2/DX) or Arkane games. They nailed the immersion, the platforming, the pacing, the level design and I enjoyed the story too although that's one of the things people heavily criticized (that and the awkward shooting, but that was something I'd include as a positive). I love that it's a game you can speed through in 4 hours on a first play while fighting enemies and using the visual aids to get through the level but easily dip back into trying to optimize your path while trying to completely avoid using guns and minimizing confrontation entirely (reading that back I'd describe my love for Deathloop similarly). Getting through the end of the mission where you bust through the door and have to get to the ground level door that leads to the street while guys with machine guns are charging up the stairs as quickly as possible and without confrontation was one of the most satisfying things I've done in a game. Same with the car park level, although that was frustrating too. I don't think it's a perfect game, while the pacing is great overall the cooldown moments inbetween the free running can have some annoying "where do I go now" moments, but it's fantastic and vastly superior to the sequel which "fixed" all of the best parts of the original by having a boring open world with repetitive busywork, rpg mechanics, forced combat, and free running levels that are completely linear.

The original (
