1. Guy avoids hostile takeover of his studio by EA.
2. Guy sells his studio to Codies.
3. Codies gets bought by EA.
4. EA discontinues guy's franchise.

Yeah, except Ian left Slightly Mad before that happened. What's great is that the original company he founded is still around and continuing to develop R3E, which is one of the very few things using ISI gMotor technology that isn't hot trash.
