Thoughts after beating it... uh, beating the game that is. - by Shodin

Well after beating the game I gotta say that it was one of the more interesting games I've played in a while. The last one that kept me glued to the monitor was Morrowind.
The only real lagging question I have is, what the hell was up with that demonic Alia sequence when you go back to give her the ring(s)?? That was special creepy.
Something I found kinda funny about the game was the soundbyte for the speed spell (not the casting part, but running around after the spell has been cast). It sounded like it was based off of The 6 Million Dollar Man when he jumped over a wall or something. :thumb:
The graphics in the game were pretty amazing, and while I prefer movie sequences to utilize phenomenal graphics and artwork, the static artwork used was well done. Somebodies definitely put in the keyboard and brain time on it.
One of the most annoying parts of the game was the ice dragon battle. I was getting time frozen no less than 3 times w/o a break, with the most being 24! The only spells I got off were the three in my instacast slots. Every time I tried to draw-cast a spell I was always interrupted due to the near zero time between freezes. So I just sat back in the cave entrance and shot arrows at it until it died. It must've taken me 30 minutes to kill it. Geez, now that I think about it, the battle with Akbaa was shorter. :nono:
The other kinda craptacular part of the game was the ending. You kill Akbaa and you're whisked away immediately - what's up with that?!? I want the town kow-towing to me and half-naked women throwing themselves at me for saving their entire world. Oh well, guess I'll have to dream about Alia... sans her "that time of the month" look.
Incidentally, random side-note here, if any of you are thinking about getting Asheron's Call 2, don't bother. Although the graphics are really good for a MMORPG, the game play is uber:bored: I got almost three weeks into the trial period before calling it quits. Big waste-o-dinero, but it's a M$ product, so I shouldn't have expected too much. :erg:
Cheers,
Shodin

That Alia demon sequence was a nightmare. I did find the original, heheh, uncensored version of that cutscene in the pak files tho. Innnnteresting....:cheeky: (half-nekkid women do throw themselves at you...just not at the end of the game ;) )
BTW, why did you have to fight the dragon? You don't need to to win, or even to get the egg.
Shodin on 14/12/2002 at 02:53
I tried talking to the dragon, but it just kept saying things like "aren't you cold" and "you should leave, you must be freezing". So I just said screw it and snagged an egg while the dragon was still on its perch. It got really honked off and cast a magic field at the entrance, so I dispelled it and just hunkered down on the other side. That's when the barrage of time freezes began. I began to run back to the teleporter, but it time froze me all the way there. So rather than trying to get back there to fight it, I loaded up one of the save games I had before I went in the lair and then decided to kill it. I probably would've saved a lot of time by just teleporting after I snatched the egg, but I wanted to kill a dragon w/a bow and arrow. :cheeky:
Hehe, what house did YOU go into to find half-naked women?
Microwave Oven on 14/12/2002 at 19:10
The dragon won't talk unless you have been proven to be the guardian after the one council room cut-scene.
To get the egg right, you need to have read "The Races of Arx" in the castle library, and have 4815 gold pieces on you.
What exactly did you think Alia had in mind when she asked Am Shegar to "stay" awhile? Eh? Just to take a nap? ;) (You can't get the original cutscene without some file renaming using ArxPak)
There are many...interesting...things to find in the .pak files.

Grabbed ArxPak, where are some of these more.... interesting files located at? :ebil:

Look at the mesh for the default human female. Turn the textures on in the ArxPak viewer.
Shodin on 16/12/2002 at 16:08
What's the path to it? I don't see any default human female in the Teleport to list.
Also, how do you turn on textures - or turn on anything for that matter? I don't have any options to do any of that.

Yeah, I'd be real interested in a good tutorial on how to use this beast as I really don't like mucking around blind. No topless skins for the snake women though. :nono: :cheeky:
