Time for the yearly christmas-playthrough for SS2! So, on a yearly basis around christmas i've always had a tradition to play System Shock 2. Last year was the exception, celebrating with my parents, the computer only had Thief 2 installed, which i guess was just as good.
Might try the SCP this time around. Impossible of course, no restrictions this time around, though, would have been great with a mod that upped the difficulty mid-late game.
Are you guys doing any of these Thief/Shock playthroughs around these times?

I made a couple of SS2 playthroughs last month, and also a couple of System Shock playthroughs the month before that. I might replay Thief Gold and Thief II soon. And I'm also thinking of replaying Bioforge, although that won't take me more than an afternoon.

I keep replaying SS1 every now and then - at no particular part of the year though. That thing just does not get old ... unlike me.
Something i keep noticing though - it seems all my playthroughs stop in front of the last cyberspace section. Odd. I actually really like the ending part, while short, it seems i still can not be bothered to PLAY through that :/. The whole bridge part winds me down, but at least it does not make me stop.

I find that both games have a timeless factor to them, once you adjust to the graphics. Though with SS1 it's more adjusting to the controls.

Last x playthroughs i actually used the mouse-look mod -> quite comparable to SS2 that way i think.
Unfortunately - it makes the game much easier and looses some flavor (there are aspects of the vanilla UI that i do like and miss). And you pretty much loose cyberspace completely :(
Not played SS2 for a while :/ ... got to think why and i think SS1 just gives better replay value for me as i roleplay it heavily and SS2 is too linear and restricted for that (at least for me).
Meh ... i think i am just biased. Anyone roleplay (*) SS2?
*) most importantly: all choices based on whoever you play as, ignoring all foreknowledge (being especially rigorous in doing so with the choices you obviously know to make a big difference).

Yeah, we were playing it just a few moments ago with my bro. He comes to me almost every evening to play co-op FM's. Already completed: Ponterbee, Nightwalker, Polaris. Next to go: Urlaub, Shocking ruins, Return to the UNN (i have the MP patch for this one). This is just GREAT! Then we will play the original game with all recommended graphical mods and SCP.

I'm not sure what this would specifically entail? More use of the less efficient upgrades and weapons?

Make up a personality and go with it. And yes, that can entail limitations not imposed by the game itself.
For example, the last one i had was a non-cable guy hacker (highly reliant on logic probes)
who likes to keep a clear head (no patches, except medi when really needed and don't have any alternatives - ie. medpacks etc are ok) but is a complete coward (prefers to avoid big open areas and other dangers) which is reasonable as he is quite a weakling (only carries one non-energy weapon [simplification to not needing to keep track of the presumably heavy load of ammo]) preferring to keep all confrontation to minimum (not killing when running away is an option [when in doubt, then first run away and sort it out later - and if the encounter was a close call then avoid that part of the ship entirely, if you can] and generally avoiding senseless exploration) ... etc ... adjust as needed. DIEGO WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE!? HANDS OFF MY ESCAPE POD!
The drug-addict trait was quite fun also - x_x, all the trouble it pretty much directly was responsible for (oh, baddies, i'm nervous, a few berserk patches [plus whatever other crap you find too if the fight looks to be tough] for encouragement and banzai in - obviously with a gun, a random one possibly). Plus other related traits (Oh, SHINY! throw away random gun whenever you encounter a new gun and need room for it -> threw away the scorpion for riot gun when going for the plastique x_x *massive-facepalm*).

Should be able to do co-op on my FM "Ancient". I remember adding that into it + testing it with MrTripp once.

Oh, thanks! I've already told him that the first FM that I've discovered (or even was released) is your doomish Ancient, after which I had nightmares of being in a close space without weapons with a lot of hybrids outside. So it's co-op compatible? Great to know! We will play it right after he finishes Zombe's Proov - he plays it and I watch his progress.
Btw, Zombe, you told about the second almost finished FM of your own. If there's no progress, could you upload just what you have? Maybe just to us, and you will get interest in it when you start getting response from players. Pleeease
