It looks like just another self placating phantasmagoria of an American businessman.
Many historians, ethnologists and political scientists however, predict slow and continuous decline of wester civilization and white race in general.
Now tell me who's more competent to judge and compare civilizations?
I'd say, better be glad you don't live at the
end of 21st century.

Yes it's still GREAT britain...
That's because the 'Great' in Great Britian is used for two reasons, firstly in the sense of 'larger' to distinguish it from Brittainy. Secondly, it was added at the time of the unification with Scotland to denote the two kingdoms becoming a larger entity than their former 'independent' existences (though even a hundred years earlier James I and VI was calling himself 'King of Great Britain'). It has nothing to do with the empire (save for those troublesome Celts ;) ) or self-aggrandisement.

I vote with all my ten for the independence of Scotland!
65 % of what I ever need to know about British history comes from Monty Pythons Flying Circus.

And you believe them? And since when do we ask a history expert to predict the future. I have to say the US is very well positioned, but of course China could sneak in under our nose and capture the title as the #1 power.
In Canada we don't care too much, WE CONTROL THE WORLD'S RESOURCES HAHAHA.
Rogue Keeper on 27/10/2006 at 07:37
To predict the future, you must understand the past.
Regarding Canada with it's rich resources, you know how it ended in Fallout. ;)
Regarding US hegemony, or hegemony of any superpower in fact, they shouldn't worry only their direct
competitors struggling for the position of the supreme superpower, but they should also worry about increasing
disobedience of their "colonies". They can pacify them for some time, but not forever - and it's very energy
draining to keep pack of wild dogs on a leash. See my reason #1 of the decline of British empire.
Of course colonization has a different methods in economically globalized modern world and it's not so apparent, but take
South America for example. Many South American countries were/are basically extended "US colonies", guided by businessmen
and US-friendly governments. In the other hand, South America has also strong socialist and/or nationalist movements,
which are perceived by US government as "EVIL", and the reason is obvious - these movements are big obstruction for American
neoliberal control of their "colonies" and by extention, their ideological influence in the world.
Regarding China, I don't know... thinking patterns of the yellow race are quite strange to me, but I must admit they are very diligent,
focused and ambitious and that's their big strength. And they are THE MANY.
Who's up for the NEW WORLD ORDER!? :D
