yep, something is very, very wrong with your install (the user.bnd file from the screenshots looks like it has been created by oldDark T1). delete the game completely, create a fresh, clean install, patch it with TafferPatcher (and nothing else. also make sure to select the NewDark patch) and see whether it works.
make sure you are not doing something insane like patching T1 with TaferPatcher.

Yes, the 4th screenshot says "This file was generated by Thief The Dark Project." I'm guessing anything patched with New Dark (manually or via Tafferpatcher) would not say that.

as mentioned, he is probably doing something he shouldn't with his install (a manual installation of some language pack has been mentioned, maybe it contains some bad/read only stuff) - as soon as he stops doing that, I'm 99.99% sure his problems will go away.

@Unna ah, I forgot the screenshot was of the binding file, when Brethren said that I thought it was a stamp added by the engine to all screenshots. My bad.
