Jeans: comfortable enough to wear everywhere, stylish enough to get me laid. As long as you stay away from the preworn riddled-with-holes and shredded legcuff variety, jeans can be about as clean cut and nice as a good pair of khakis. And for all you obnoxious people like the author linked above, a good pair can even go along well with your Bass Weejuns.

I hear the man swears only to brown socks and white shirts too.

"Seventy-five percent of American "gamers" -- people who play video games -- are older than 18 and nevertheless are allowed to vote."
...his implication being that if you play video games, you shouldn't be allowed to vote?
I've told people tell me that George Will is really smart, but I'm just not seeing it.

How marvellous it must be to live in a place where everyone can dress like Fred Astaire on a daily basis. I just can't understand why people accuse the poor fellow of being an elitist snob.
Ah, what do you expect from someone who devotes every 4th thing that he writes to baseball?

I don't think I even owned a pair of jeans from maybe age 12 to about 28. I wear them to work, but beyond that I don't even really find them all that comfortable.
That doesn't really change my opinion that George Will drools all over his typewriter when he's writing about anything other than baseball, and even then I'd rather just read Bill James or someone who actually has something to say.

Bwah. Jeans are the new smart casual, just deal with it, Georgie boy.

I love George Will, and I'll have to agree with him to a point about this subject, but for somewhat different reasons. Jeans (blue jeans in particular), are staid. Fashion should change over time, and jeans are still around in pretty much the exact same way (with only slightly different cuts) as they were at their creation.
There are other colors for pants. Contrary to popular belief, blue jeans do NOT go with everything - they are blue, and blue doesn't go with everything. They go well with a certain slice of clothing design.
Jeans have become the go to crutch for people with either no imagination for fashion, or with enough knowledge of themselves to know that they have no taste. They are the Honda Civic of the fashion world - perfectly serviceable, but with as much character as a 2x4.
I hate sounding like some sort of fashion Nazi here, because I certainly am not, but it doesn't require a great of skill to match up a shirt and a pair of pants of differing colors on occasion. I've been known to wear some pretty crappy clothes, but at least the crappy clothes look different from one another.
P.S., Jerry Jeff is teh awesomes, so George can go fuck right off on that one.

Black jeans go with everything.

Quote:
This is not complicated. For men, sartorial good taste can be reduced to one rule: If Fred Astaire would not have worn it, don't wear it. For women, substitute Grace Kelly.

Who cares? They're blue jeans. Your only normal alternatives to them are khakis, black slacks, or whatever color shorts you want to wear. Pants are just there for utility and/or coverage. You want fashion, you wear a nice shirt.
