Anyway, this is how it goes in here:
- If you hate Thief 4, you may pat yourself on the back and call yourself a True Fan.
- If you do not hate Thief 4 and actually like some of the things that you've seen so far, you're either a secret agent hired by EM, a stupid console kid, or a corporate whore who has been brainwashed by the EM marketing guys.
- If you're somewhere in between those two, you're probably quite alright, but you're not a True Fan, and you're most likely a modern mainstream gamer who plays stupid dumbed down games for console kiddies, so yeah, you're probably an idiot after all. :p

Deus Ex: HR was released on 23 Aug 2011 for $60.
6 months later, 23 Feb 2012, I bought it on Steam for $10 + $5(ML DLC), this was a sale and it was normally $30 I think.
Yesterday (1yr & 9months later) it was $4.99 on a Steam sale, and now normally $20.
I really can't see buying any game for $60. If it ends up being as popular as DE:HR (which is unlikely), I will still wait for it to drop in price.
Steam says I played DE:HR for 39 hours, so Thief better be on par with that if it starts at $60 at release.

Nope, this is how it goes: one or two guys make some noise and suddenly they are the representative of a whole group of people. What you are doing is pointing at the worst examples and claiming that everyone here is like that.
For example, I have disliked pretty much everything that has been shown to us, but when have I ever said anything like the above? I don't consider myself a Thief fan or hate Thief 4, yet (we haven't even seen the game!), or hate people who like what they have seen or think that console games are inherently stupid (some of my favourite games are console games, like Silent Hill, Hellnight, etc).
The dumbing down that you talk about is a real thing, though. Where do you think regenerating health comes from? Or auto-hit weapons? Or simplified controls? Or limited inventory and weapons? Or smaller more linear levels? This is all due to console limitations. There are simply games consoles are less suited for, such as FPS, strategy and roleplaying games that demand complex controls and systems.
