Look, jbairdjr, without "offending" the athiests out here, this is all I am trying to say. If you want to go to church, then go. Don't let other people or churches decide for you. People should not be in charge of what you believe in.

Look. You've got it all wrong. You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody! You've got to think for yourselves. You're all individuals!

That's Catholicism for you. Catholicism is NOT Christianity. Read the Bible, it will tell you the truth and what REAL Christianity is. Don't let this corrupt church hinder you from faith.
oh for fuck's sake

Is this an okay time to suggest once again that something about the theology of the Christian faith attracts mentally unstable individuals? If not, I'll come back later.

No, no. I think the timing is perfect.

I'm a non-practising Catholic, and I'm more amused than rankled by taffer19's statement. Organised religion makes me more and more disillusioned by the day, whatever names it may be known by.

This isn't to say that a few people haven't established that they are like that, but geez nobody spends much time registering and mapping who has ever been found guilty for somone's death in your neighbourhood. And if you did you'd probably find out the circumstances and what happened after before you condemmed them forever.
They might if it were kids being killed. Child abuse has the highest rate of recidivism. More than a few. But that isn't the point. A society which doesn't protect it's future doesn't have one. And that's not even the point.
They can't protect themselves whereas WE can. WE can choose to carry a gun or not. WE can choose who we have sex with. I don't see how you can not get the point that we must protect those in our charge and with greater responsibilty than adults. We are not talking gray areas where a 16 year old and a 30 year old romance each other and eventually marry. My own parents had a lifetime of never an argument or harsh word one with love and respect on both sides. We are talking predators. We have to protect.
And, you know, that's not even the point. I can't explain being a parent. You have to look into the eyes of somebody who depends on you to make things right to understand. There is no other way to truely understand.
What circumstances EVER make it okay to rape a child?
And thanks for reminding me of "the meaning of life" Sulfur, first movie I took my wife to. She thought I was strange. We seriously need a new Monty Python for this confused age.
