fett, if you rape any of the 17 women you get persecuted. And the same should be true for paedophiles. No doubt about that.
But if you care for the children so much, then the decision to offer help to paedos, who haven't turned into offenders yet, or who have done their sentence, doesn't even require sympathy. It's the reasonable thing to do. It also actually helps the cause, unlike all the dehumanizing ("monsters") does.
I have no sympathy for rapists and child molesters either. I do differ however in one important point: Any human, whatever he's done, is still a human. That means we all have inalienable rights. Like getting a decent lawsuit, when we've done wrong. And being jailed in a reasonably equipped prison, instead of being rounded up in "reservations" or hung by body parts or get them chopped off.
This separates us from the dark ages or the uncivilized places that still exist in the world today. And I'm not ready to give that up for anything. It's just not up for discussion, regardless of whatever crime someone may have done.

It's also rather incomparable to the urge of "many men" to drink or have sex willy-nilly (olol), since when/if (as many actually do) you have a minor or major lapse in your control of those urges, you might get a slap or two, you might lose your wife or girlfriend, you might wind up a sad old dying alcoholic but you're not suddenly a "monster" who deserves to die or be sterilized.
Supressing what you are sexually, as I'm sure many homosexuals have found, is rather tricky, even in places where its a punishable offense.
So I'm not sure, really. I was interested in watching a recent Louis Theroux documentary about the facility in the US where ex-jailed paedophiles are kept indefinitely - and on the one hand it seems like a decent idea, it's not a prison, it's fairly comfortable and they get support, but on the other, these are people who have "paid" for the crime in jail, yet still being deprived of their basic freedom for fear they might commit a crime in future, which I also find troubling.

I don't disagree with any method which will help children but perhaps the reason some molesters seek help is because they understand how we feel about them and if we (society not psychiatry) acted as if it were an illness and no big deal they wouldn't. More importantly they might give in to thier urges more often. Oops my bad, you know I got this illness right?
Much of life is a choice of lesser evils. Castration or segregation is the lesser when compared with child rape. It's not about punishment. It's about protection of children. Children have an inalienable right not to be raped.
And I swear to god some of you were raised in Skinner boxes by cold blooded intellectual lizzards not to understand venting.
Hypothetical: If you knew a child was going to be raped and the person who was going to do it was bigger or armed would you
1-go call the police while the kid was being raped
2-step between them and be killed and the child then raped
3-stand there saying I say old bean that's not very sporting we really should have a nice intelligent conversation over some crumpets
4-pick up a gun and blow his brains out
That hypothetical is also a vent. I'm sure you can come up with a better fifth choice and I'm all for hearing it but you know my choice. I WANT molesters to know as a deterrant what my choice is. Understand yet?
Nabakov started all this shit didn't he?
Singing Dancing Moose on 26/5/2009 at 20:11
that's right
nabakov invented and endorsed pedophilia
also i like the implication that any pedophile will gladly kill for a chance to rape a child

As a responsible gun-owning parent sdm it is your duty to reframe every hypothetical confrontation as a kill-or-be-killed scenario
Singing Dancing Moose on 26/5/2009 at 20:31
so if my kid grows up to be a pedophile do i have to kill him before he kills me
Vigil on 26/5/2009 at 20:41
being a parent means being ready to make hard decisions with a gun
so I guess yes?? or maybe no
gosh this parenting thing is really hard :(

You are establishing one slippery argument here that you are
never going to win. It's entirely unsupportable in any real sense whatsoever.
Vent away, but you're doing your side more harm than good.
And we can dispense with this "unless you're a parent you don't know" nonsense, as I'm assuming most of us aren't so ill-equipped as to be entirely without parenting acquaintances possessed of a slightly more nuanced take on the topic.
Having said that, said nuanced take--as rational and practical as it might be--would undoubtedly shatter if tested by tragedy of the kind that Dia's friend horribly suffered.

The State took them away.
