AND WHERE THE HELL IS KOLYA WHEN YOU NEED HIM
Having some minor problems with getting an internet connection after having moved. On the good side I'm in love with my flatmate (who's my age btw). I'm a very happy man.
Anyway, paedophilia is a sexual orientation like any other, seen from a strictly biological viewpoint. Paedophiles cannot change their sexual orientation, just like gays cannot become straights and vice versa. Many if not all of them would like to do that. They don't want to hurt a child, but can't help feeling aroused by children. And the social stigma is more than anyone can bear.
Since paedophilia is not acceptable for us, what we can do is to help these people learn to live with their orientation without living it out. There have been a few small projects by trained psychologists who did just that, partly by offering anonymous counseling. The response to these offers has always been overwhelming.
A lot of paedos fear their own sexuality, they fear what they could do to an innocent if they lose control for a moment. And society fears them and they know that too. But we leave these people alone with their problems. And when one of them cannot control himself anymore we unleash the holy fury on them.
And some of us seem all too happy to drop the mask of humanity. Finally there's someone who's the lowest of low, and deserves no sympathy whatsoever, someone we can act like animals against...

First of all, congrats on your new lady love Kolya.
I'm jealous. I wish you all the best. No rly.
Secondly, I'm sorry, but I just
can't seem to be so dispassionate regarding pedophiles. Especially not when some of them have tortured and murdered helpless, innocent children. I cannot maintain a tolerant attitude towards monsters like that nor can I feel one iota of sympathy for their mental illness. Because that's what they are; monsters. Sick, oh yes; but they've also been given the ability to reason and a modicum of self-control, just like the rest of us. Imo there is no way I can feel any sympathy towards a person who has tortured (that's exactly what raping a child is, btw; both physically as well as mentally & emotionally for the child) and murdered a defenseless child. Rationalize all you want; it doesn't justify their crimes against helpless children, generate any sympathy from me for those creatures, or evoke any tolerance of those crimes. Fett & Tocky had a good point that being a parent has a lot to do with one's reaction to child molesters. So does having once known a sweet 4 year old child who was tortured, raped, and murdered by a pedophile.
It's been stated time and again that the recidivism rate for child molesters is very high, especially after many years of the molester having been 'rehabilitated' (they can go without molesting a child for anywhere from 10 to 20 years, but then can snap and go right back to molesting children), so yes, they are a danger to children as long as they have the desire for sex. I found this article quite interesting regarding the treatment and attempted rehabilitation of pedophiles; especially appealing to me was the option of castration:
'For the more driven and dangerous pedophiles, chemistry or surgery may be more effective in controlling sexual impulses. Castration -- removal of the testes, which produce the male sex hormone testosterone -- when coupled with follow-up hormone monitoring, is a drastic but effective solution to sexual offenses. In European castration studies from the 1940s and 1950s, recidivism rates were in the single digits -- probably the lowest of any treatment.' (

Good to hear, considering it took you awhile to find someone tolerable - even better when things work out well.

Still, if it's just an orientation, as many psychologists now claim, how is it any different from other urges or desires that people experience? I have the desire to drink ALOT and have sex with 17 women at the same time, but I restrain myself because I've made a decision not only to be faithful to my wife, but I'm also convinced that such behavior is bad for the community as a whole. If it's merely a matter of willpower, then paedophailes are just as guilty of assault as someone who robs a bank or stabs someone. Particularly when pre-meditation is involved, which is the case a large percentage of the time. I'm not sure why they should get a pass just because their desire is sexually oriented rather than financial or hate-motivated. If it's designated as a mental illness, then that's a whole different thing, and we should offer help, but if we define it as merely an orientation, they can and should be able to control themselves, just like the rest of us set limitations and boundaries, or suffer the consequences.
