This is not the 10 Greatest Albums of 2000-2009, this is just a tribute - by henke

Great lists guys. :) Listened to Tosca's Suzuki and Goldfrapp's Black Cherry at work today. Very cool stuff, will try to give most of these albums a listen. At least the ones that can keep my attention beyond the first song.

are you joking for the Rapture
I was gonna reply "are you joking with an album called He Poos Clouds?" but then I listened to it and holyshit its actually kinda good. But yeah the Rapture album is the first one that came to my mind when I started my list. It's great.

Great thread, henke.
I'm hoping you'll make one for Films of the Decade soon. :)
edit: hot dang Angel Dust went and made one just as I posted this. Same exact title and all! 8|

It sure as hell isn't :weird:
I've put in excerpts from each album so you can listen to Contrapunctus 1.

Oh man, I completely misread the topic title. Thought this was just 2009!
In that case, I'll definitely have a list once I'm done doing Laundry.

Actually, now that I think about, it's still to early to compile a list like this. I need more distance from the albums of the last couple years. I love everything I listed, but the list still seems incomplete, somehow, like there's so much more that—while not individually as important—as a whole, makes up a significant part of my life.
Yeah, I think we need to keep these threads bumped awhile as we let the decade sink in a bit, lest these lists be loaded with recent stuff that still has us in its thrall.
Additionally, I want to be able to relisten to old favorites and see how they stack up; was, say,
Elephant really as good as I thought? One thing is for sure, though: my list is probably going to be at least a top 20, sensible portion sizes be damned! I cant sum up a decade in any less.
Just about got my top ten from 2009 sorted, though. Trying to see if
Tarot Sport makes any last minute changes.

I've got a soft spot for Sting, I'll admit it. Especially when he's singing a kitschy ballad about being a prostitute (
they've got money, I've got the time/being pretty is my only crime)
Rhyming couplet half-inched from the Pet Shop Boys'
Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)I can program a computer, choose the perfect time
If you've got the inclination, I have got the crimeBut if you're going to steal, steal from the best

They are predicting the death of the album. Radiohead themselves are thinking of releasing a stream of singles. So how will our lists look in 2019? Its tough to think about albums in an iPod world. Having said that, here's mine for the decade (in no particular order):

I remember one time when we were abroad
I was laughing at a book I had bought
But you were standing against the hotel wall
Frozen in an unknown thought2. Inline Image:

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf800/f845/f84556evw40.jpg (2003)Got me over my failed first marriage. "Overtime" should be a standard. If you breakup with someone, put this song on--just trust me.
4. Inline Image:
http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drh300/h398/h39831jvssa.jpg (2006)By far the one I listened to the most. Maybe 500 times. There may be no sadder topic than the destruction of the environment. Gojira deal with it in cosmic/fantasy mode picturing a future world that we haven't fucked up. All set to crushing Meshugga-like metal.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drg000/g030/g03097xh6xm.jpg (2003)Did you write her off? This album is a feast. Along with her Massive Attack cuts and a live set, their is some juicy stuff here. Especially the beautiful "Chiquitita". Yes, the Abba cover. And the B-52s cover, "Ain't it a Shame". And the traditional "Et Film et Filae". Great, great record!

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drl400/l403/l40366cfsf5.jpg (2008)They are breaking up, well, this month. I can't imagine a more under-appreciated band of this caliber. As much love as Mastodon gets, Burst should be at least in the conversation. You shouldn't even have to be a metal or post-rock fan. Drop dead world class act in a maligned genre. They will be missed.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dre400/e412/e41232574cm.jpg (2000)If Sonic Youth released a black metal album. Or if Jimi Hendrix did. Few Enslaved fans would choose this record, but I love the noise/psychadelic/black metal mash-up.

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf500/f565/f56526a339a.jpg (2002)Bloodbath's finest collection of songs. Oh, you indie fans would really hate this one. But what's so bad about riffs and energy anyway? There are other emotional landscapes besides irony. And its all tongue-in-cheek anyway (given the pedigree of the band members). Let's just say, for some reason we don't know, that you need to head into battle. Would you rather listen to Fleet Foxes or "So You Die"? I choose the latter, better to kill heathens with!

Music Has The Right To Children - Boards of Canada - my personal preference over Geogaddi, but I guess that's because it's much more accessible and softer, lacking some of the sinister paranoia present in their earlier work.
I don't know if this was just a typo but Music... was their first release.
Tonamel on 4/12/2009 at 21:29
Might be their first major release, but it's not the first thing they did. Their ealier EPs, like Twoism and Hi Scores, have been reissued since.
Doesn't change the fact that Music... was released in 1998, though ;)

no way I love bloodbath! But if I were about to battle I'd have to go with the classic "Bathe in Blood"
this seems like something for me, but I haven't listened to it yet. Like Stars of the Lid?
