My entire point in this stupid thread is that good stuff like this is
not what's driving hiphop these days.
Oh so
that's what you meant when you said
"the awful mess that hiphop is today". You just mean't that
other stuff, but not
this stuff?
Yeah, that's what's meant by "shifting the goalposts" and you do it all the fucking time. After you're proven wrong you don't just fess up to it but instead your mind rearranges things so you
actually believe "oh yeah that's what I meant all along!". I know you can't help it, because you're delusional, but maybe you can at least understand why it's so exhausting for everyone else to have a debate with you.

I can't shift the goalposts. You guys have them all up your asses and you're spinning like tops 'cuz you think you look awesome.
But there you fucking go- these examples are actually
good. My entire point in this stupid thread (aside from, you know, nerdcore is Sturgeon's Law personified) is that good stuff like this is
not what's driving hiphop these days. It's the crunk-infused garbage that most younger folks and delusional people think constitutes real hiphop.
Well duh. Mainstream never drives anything forward. New and interesting comes from UG and is adapted into the mainstream. That's how it's always been. That's why you don't look at MTV or the bigger labels for music, because it's been done before and better already.

I think it's also a bit different today, namely because of the internet, which—more easily than ever—allows music subcultures to proliferate independently of whatever's happening in the mainstream. But even then, East-coast guys like Jay-Z do really well...

I like nerdcore because it doesn't spit lyrics like violent 13 year old copycat of the first rap song with just a tweak here or there. It has humor and self awareness. Most rap both old school and new sounds like the same I'm so bad bullshit it started out as. Same beat. Same retarded jailyard chestbeating. Every now and then you get an Icecream Paintjob but mostly it's troglodyte strutting. ercles examples illustrate well.
But don't listen to me because I'm a bitter old man. Not hip. Not hop on pop.

It's not that; just that you haven't read the lyrics. Hip-hop artists are inherently self-promoters, but the best ones are not only literate, but also clever and insightful. And that includes the guys ercles posted.
ps - ercles, I never heard Reflection Eternal before, but man, they're great

Ever since Hip Hop's commercial breakthrough in the early 90s, its main source of income have been white middle class kids who need the jailyard chestbeats for their reputation.
If Nerdcore artists become successful in any way then it's because the raps are about something the kids actually know for a change. It's not less stupid but quite a bit less phony.
