Have they not been listening to what people have been saying on the boards for years? If there has to be 3rd person, keep it completely separate from 1st person...or allow the player to turn off ALL third person switching. To hear this after however many years of pre-production and fan discussions on the forums is so disappointing. This was one of the few things fans of 3rd person and 1st person actually agreed upon, keeping things separate...yet...here we are again, with the EM devs doing the same nonsense DE:HR and Deadly Shadows did...integrating two POV's.
I agree, this is a terrible shame...All the good work and valued input of the community simply disregarded on such a fundamental matter...If only they would have listened...:(

Wrong. Not auto praise or defense. Its my honest opinion. Try to accept it for what it is.
Come on. You must think everyone here is really stupid. You've backed every single design decision EM has made so far, and haven't uttered a single word of criticism. If you're going to go undercover, at least try not to be so completely transparent with your intentions.

" 3rd person is used to improve your awareness of your surroundings - for example, during vertical navigation. We're really taking particular care to make sure that we're not jarring players back-and-forth between cameras."
That will be jarring and immersion breaking. Anything 3rd person should be able to be switched off.

I dunno, I'm kind of with her more often than not and I don't get paid by Eidos to be. Then again my agenda is different.

Me too.

They have a "Community Manager", b1zkit, who says very little to the Thief fans.
Here is one of the very few things he did take the time to say:
"Nothing was changed because of community uproar. The community was in uproar over speculation :)"
A pretty unnecessarily disagreeable and snarky reply to the notion that maybe the community might have some influence.
In fairness and to add some context, I think he was specifically referring just to Focus being an option.
The original comment made by a community member was:
"It (Focus) is (now learned to be) optional, but we don't know if that's because of fan community uproar, or if that's how it always was."
And here was his reply, which I'll add a couple words to in order to express what I feel his intent was:
"Nothing was changed
regarding Focus because of community uproar. The community was in uproar over speculation :)"
I don't think he meant that the community's input over the years across a wide variety of topics has never influenced their decisions.

Hey DF, great to see ya...:D
I wouldn't be surprised either way, given my experience over at Eidos.

Great to see you, too! Hope all is well in the land of TTLG... you defector :) just kidding. I had to take a break, too, but recently went back into the bear pits ;)

The community member was you, "Darkness Falls". You seem to have misremembered that? And so, it appears also that you forget the complete context as well. You said graciously and enthusiastically:

Indeed. I like it!
And then you made a point about how despite the
real fatalists' negativity, we as a community should continue to speak-up, and try and reach the developers:
Quote Posted by DarknessFalls
It is optional, but we don't know if that's because of fan community uproar, or if that's how it always was. I don't care, or need to know. But I'm just saying, so any time news comes out that puts purists minds to rest, please consider that EM may have tweaked things as a result of the upheaval as opposed to it being in their plans all along. No saying, "See! I told you guys it would be an option or you could choose not to use it!" unless you're on the dev team and know that for a fact :)
To which, as quickly as b1zkit has ever answered anything, he replied with a snarky and dismissive:
Quote Posted by b1zkit
Nothing was changed because of community uproar.
It was churlish and certainly not necessary... and not even reliable, as b1zkit isn't "on the dev team".
Darkness_Falls on 29/3/2013 at 01:09
Lol, busted! I know it was me ;) I wasn't hiding that fact; I just didn't want any credit or attention to the moot point. And my note after saying I liked it was written because I knew members who predictably support EM at every move might use the new info of "Focus is confirmed optional" (and more news like it that may come down the pike (e.g., you can completely disable 3P)) as an opportunity to tell those who critique the released tidbits of info, "See! You didn't have anything to worry about all along. Stop being negative, stop criticising, stop commenting before you know the facts; trust EM. You should've just staunchly supported EM at every move like us!" When, in fact, only the devs would know whether or not the upheavals and/or past discussions caused them to tweak anything.
I have no problem with the community constructively speaking up and trying to reach the developers, if something is or seems bothersome, worrisome or potentially against what you want. I do it all the time. I can't tell from your post if you're aware that I'm okay with doing that, and have done it.
