Trust me, no denial or histrionics here, I'd be shocked if there wasn't some kind of cut to third person when Garrett performs his flying dropkick and takes down 4 guards ala Captain Kirk. I'm just saying it's hardly CONFIRMED just because some guy from GI says so.
What's up with the reference to 3rd person gameplay footage, where did that come from? Haven't heard anything about it.

Oh, who the feathers cares anyway?
Edit: Yeah, that does look like 3rd person in the background. It also looks like new Thief to me, in that it's in their studio and it doesn't look like anything else I can think of apart from Thief 3.
I still don't care.

I can't believe you're using that as an argument - it could be anything, literally. That's worse than that single blurry screenshot someone posted a year or two ago that was supposed T4 gameplay from beta testers. But anyway, yeah, Teef will probably have third person parts, I'm just hoping that it's only for the takedowns or fighting portions, so if you decide to play 100% stealthy you won't have to endure it.
(Btw, is it really that hard for french people to make a "Th" sound?)
@SE - what is the point of your post, is it that hard for you to just say nothing? Yes, obviously, whether NewThief is first or third person is important if you care at all about the new game. If you don't, then you just shouldn't be posting here (or probably reading here either). I didn't think so before, but now it just looks like you're trolling for a response.
Mission accomplished then, I guess...?

I care. Third person is for lame-o's.

That Vinsanity guy in the first post probably never played the 1st two Thief games, to see how 1st person stealth can be accomplished. It is difficult in Dishonored, where you can't hide in Shadows and you can't hear footsteps much. Dark Vision is almost required to figure out what is going on with enemies near you.

My point is I don't care if there is third person or not. It's not the important issue.
What IS important is if the third person interferes with the first person perspective at all, like it did in Thief 3. I'd prefer the game to be totally in first person though.
More importantly than this is I just don't care what is hinted at or not until we actually, really know what we're getting and how it will work. And part of this is I'm tired of these twits moaning about things they don't really know about, like that video. What's the bets that van Helsing will post at least 1 negative post about the new Thief per day for the rest of the week, each of which will have no real basis?

It looks like lockpicking is 3rd-Person, à la, Splinter Cell, and I'm wondering what else will be. I can't tell, either, if the 3rd-Person mocap stuff is entirely for cutscenes, or if the camera leaves Garrett's head in-game while a conversation is playing out.

It would be kind of nice, if they're allowing Dishonored to influence their design, to have similarly immersive first person takedown/kill animations.
'Immersive'. Um...
interesting way of describing Dishonored's janky first-person kill animations.
'Unwatchably-garbled monstrosity' being another.
Hands, arms and knives flopping wildly in and out of frame, characters too close to the camera to even
see, cinematography courtesy of Michael J. Fox on a double-espresso...
Immersive!
