I never really knew why people didn't like Koki's posts, because I don't read through entire gen gaming posts much.
Now I know.

Super soldier research gone wrong, one rogue 'good' product of said supersoldier research kicking the rest of everyone's arse (Which is Universal Soldier, and therefore is balls).
Technically, the super soldier research went very
right since they do what they were supposed to. But I won't argue there, we all hate super soldiers.
I will argue about the second part though - the fact that you're Alma's son and the first prototype is not definitely confirmed until literaly last 10 minutes of the game, so how you could possibly be rogue? Yeah, you kill Replicas, but it's
your job from the very first minute of the game. Furthermore, if you sit by the credits there is one final audio message of Genevieve calling the "Senator" and telling him that First Prototype(you) was a success, so in a way you were a pawn all along.

I honestly fail to see how that's even a part of the story, or at least part significant enough to warrant any hate. They went for the "japanese horror" thing, it didn't work out, EOT. Other than a tiny bit of foreshadowing and the last 'BAM! You're my son!" bit at the end, Alma's there to scare you, not to drive story forward.

Incidentally, JP is the only media where I can call out an untrustworthy fat hacker guy.

wot. Entire Alan Wade's team was clearly against opening the Vault in the first place, and they're definitely against opening it again. Sole villain role(Well I guess locking kids in jars when they're 8 and taking them out only four times to impregnate and deliver and then killing them is kinda villanous) is played by Geneveive, who is portrayed more as a cold bitch businesswoman than mad scientist anyway.

You know who I mean, the cannibal guy who was named after stuffing. And I guess you're right about the fat hacker thing, but even so - story just didn't interest me. Could have been a bunch of gun fights with no exposition at all and I would have enjoyed it as much if not more.

psst half of FEAR 2's soundtrack is from FEAR 1.
No shit, what's your point?
june gloom on 1/5/2009 at 03:15
You cite it's somehow better when a good chunk of it is exactly the same as the last one.
EvaUnit02 on 1/5/2009 at 03:31
Still waiting on that point.

Well I just started my first game of FEAR and I'm impressed. I don't know what people are talking about, I understood the story so far. I have to admit though there were a few moments which made me go "WTF" like all those "visions" you get and of course the girl Alma. It definitely sucked me into the moment(having a bare minimum of music and a sinister soundtrack helps). Graphics-wise it looks great on High settings and doesn't really show it's age too much(there are some nice visual effects going on).As for gameplay it's quite simple and easy to grasp, Slo-Mo really helps in some tricky situations(I noticed that the AI is quite smart and you do take quite a lot of damage compared to other games).
One thing that I found a little annoying was that the items you can collect(health, weapons etc.) are quite difficult to spot sometimes. The characters don't stand out to much(except Alma herself) but I gotta admit the intro was quite brutal and that guy(forgot his name) makes a good villain because he's so cold, calculating, sinister and revolting(good motivation for me then).
This is just first impressions really, I've only played up to the third stage called Infiltration, it's quite unnerving that I keep finding the bloody skeletons of fellow FEAR soldiers.

Quite? If you happen to find a game with better AI let me know. FEAR's AI is a thing of beauty, impressed me more then Halo's did at the time.

Yeah, Half-Life was only surpassed by Halo, which was only surpassed by Farcry, which then got trumped by FEAR, IMHO.
