Hi,
I heard alot of good things about this game,
And knowing Thief and SS2, I think I'll believe what you guys say about this game more than any other game site (e.g. Gamespot, what have you) and personally, i don't care about graphics (I'm a gameplay demon :ebil:)
There is only one thing I want to know:
Combat in Arx, is it like that of Morrowind where you 'miss' half the time despite having your bloody 'sword of doom +2000' go right through the damn creature?
just that that is a 'no-no' for me
thanks :thumb:

Arx doesn't compare to Thief or SS2, but it's still worth beating. As far as accuracy and such, of course, it depends on how much skill you have. It's easier than Morrowind though (except for the Ylsides).

I;d reccomend these games
1. Might and magic 6-8
2. Wizardry 8
3.Wizards and warriors
4.Neverwinter nights
5.Baldurs Gate
6.Planescape torment
7.Divine Divinity
I'm sure you'd enjoy them more!!

Since this is an Arx forum, I'm sure that most people posting here would recommend the game. Arx is particularly well-suited for people who liked SS2 and the Thief series. Although there is a steep learning curve at first, if you stick with it you will be rewarded with a great game. I would say the combat system is less fluid than Thief's but about on a par with SS2's. One tip: If you buy the game used, make sure you get a manual, which will save you from having to hunt down information on the web.
Frankly, I don't care for the sort of RPG games that Sammy22 recommends (all those skills and points!), but to each his own. You will know best what type of game you like to play.

If you asked me, I'd say that little Sammy is a bit of a troll.
I don't go to Counterstrike forums to tell them how laughable they are. If I run across them, I may give them a piece of my mind, but I sure don't go looking for them and posting on their forums. I'd be banned in a few short blinks for trolling.

Tony if you'd bothered to read any of my posts you would realise that my original point was that I was disapointed in the games, as I had expected so much of them in relation to the link they had with the "great" ultima underworld series.
You would also have noticed references from me that perhaps I was to quick to judge the game, and have resumed playing it again to give it another chance.
Since I was looking for an underworld 2 forum i was directed here, and certainly didn;t come on to "be a troll" or however you put it.
Yes I made a couple of comments about the game which i didn;t like, but these weren't meant to cause offense, or even slag people off.
If you bother to even look you'll find i've contribruted more to this forum than most over the last couple of months, generally to discuss the game, and ask for advice in speciific situations.
Perhaps you should think again before deciding to slag me off at random in any post you've ever written. After all apart from your "unprevoked personal attacks" when have you ever had anything to say on these forums...........

Erm, I hate these little post count bragfests, and after all I did mostly leave this place a while ago following a friend's banning, but all you have to do is look at my post count and registration date to see that I've been here a while. While a large majority of those posts may or may not be the usual drivel, I think it is safe to say that at least some of those posts could be considered as "contributing."
I also think that the majority of the people in this forum agree with my assessment of you, or at least disagree with your assessment of the game. Personally, I don't consider a boatload of spam and a lot of attacks on a fine game that just about everyone here loves to be all that great of a contribution.

2 posts were a little critcial, the rest positve, particularly since I started playing the game again.
"I also think that the majority of the people in this forum agree with my assestment of you"
well once again that' s personal, to disagree with my comments is one thing, and inevitibly any negative comments will not be well appreciated.
but to suggest that I am hated on this board(that's what you implyed like it or not) is again a step too far..
Surely it's time to stop these petty games, and return to the topic which we're all here for..................................
TO DISCUSS ARX!!

In a possibly misguided effort to wrench this thread back on-topic, let me say that I enjoyed the heck out of Arx Fatalis. Having played Ultima Underworld a million years ago (that's right, the copyright on my box says, "(c) Origin Games, Inc., 997,996 B.C."), I felt that Arx Fatalis was as fine a spiritual successor to UU as you could hope for in the post-LG world. A little bummed that it doesn't support AA at all (you MUST turn it off, or menu text will not appear), but that was a minor quibble.
