So you have to get people who are creative but respect the source material, or are uncreative but technically proficient. Or somewhere in between. They're tough to find but they are out there.
Or you accept that the graphical and other upgrades are done on an unpaid, voluntary basis and that
you don't actually have to use them. Trying to direct someone into doing something you find acceptable is just likely to drive them away. And sadly there are plenty of examples of just that happening.

Ladies and gentlemen, it appears that Zygo has just taken the position that members of a mod team should not have their work subjected to peer review. A bold stance indeed. Can he defend it? Stay tuned after these messages...

Don't be ridiculous. I'm not saying you shouldn't criticise (and you know I'm not saying that), I'm saying that semi-religious fervour with regards to what is, after all, only a game is at best counter productive and at worst obsessive. I prefer the original assassins over the rebirth ones, but I also accept that others may prefer the new ones, and that someone spent a lot of unpaid time making them.

Only a game?
Joking aside you two seem to say the same thing basically. It's often a matter of tone, the way criticism is uttered. In the case of rebirth it was obsessive indeed. That is also a sign how serious people took that project. And for good reasons as it turns out. Rebirth has changed the face of SS2 for many if not most players.

A lot of things in Rebirth were really awesome and well made; that cyborg was definitely not one of them. How do you start with a humanoid cyborg wearing a sort of pseudoninja outfit and end up with a tank looking robot lol

Admittedly though, the first version was great for humor value with the big "ASS-01" stamped on its chest.

Still a cyborg is a cyborg. Not a robot. Its something thats half human and half robot. The rebirth incarnation was a robot not a cyborg. I quite liked most of the new models, but that wasn`t one of them for me either. That alone (plus I didn`t like the hybrids) was enough for me to delete it. Only SS2
upgrade mod I make sure I have installed is SHTUP. Which is a complete must have.
And on the original topic. Time and time again over the years we`ve seen so many SS1 remakes that have began with great intentions but ended once it either got to the models or with AI. Aircraftkiller if you best want to help the shock community then contributing to CCP would be ya best bet, rather than starting from scratch, as many have in the past and failed.
I`m sure I can say that I`m speaking for the majority of us in saying that we`re sick and tired of failed SS1 remakes that in the end go nowhere. Sure they all had good intentions, but if at the end of the day the best you manage is a textured medical level with no functional AIs then thats a failure. That will be forgotten.
Only one that had a truelly good chance of succeeding so far was TSSHP. Always wondered what happened to Jim the Hairy. Speaking of that project btw, I went to the website just then as I`d not checked it in many months, and theres actually been a news update for the first time in many many years. Its just a "update to tell you the projects dead" type update. But interesting to see the site updated after so long.

I agree that that 'robot' assassin mesh (while well enough made I guess) was just totally wrong for that character.
Personally, I just deleted the 'robot' assassin mesh and left the rest alone. I wouldn't want to play without Rebirth...
