First, I'd just like to say that Morrowind is just AWESOME! I love this game :) So flexible and with such wonderful plot and questing and so many guilds to choose from!
Which sort of leads me to my question - I can't seem to join the thieves' guild, but I'm not sure what I did wrong. I'm a fighter/thief custom class, with a little magic thrown in just to get me by. I had planned to join the fighters' and thieves' guild, then pick a House somewhere down the road. I joined the Fighter's guild no problem and did a few quests for them, then joined the Blades as part of the main quest. But when I tried to join the Thieves' Guild, they said I wasn't up to their standards!? By this time, I'd spent a lot of time wandering about and getting up my stats, so I know that my character should have been strong enough in thief skills to interest them. I'm assuming I must have unintenially pissed off the guild in some way, but I'm not sure how. I did do the Caldera fighter's guild quest where you kill the Thieve's guild agents, but I didn't get a bounty for it. In fact, I've never had a bounty or gone to jail, because I carry around too many "items of questionable ownership" and it would be a pain to go get it out of some evidence chest. I also, as a rule, try not to kill people for quests, just in case they are important, but on that quest it was unavoidable. Would the thieves' guild not let me in because of the Caldera guys, or is it something else I did?
This has me really confused.
Since then, I've gone on to join other guilds, but it still bugs me that the thieves' guild doesn't want me - I have my pride! Next, time I guess I will join the Thieves sooner so that I am sure to get them, but I would like to find out what I did this time, so I can avoid it in the future.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions on what I might have done wrong?
Thanks for your help!

The theives guild generally doesn't like anyone from the fighters guild. Next time join the theives first; the fighters will still take you.

Okay!
I was wondering if that was the problem. My little brother joined the thieves' guild, then later joined the fighter's guild and never had any problems.
By the time I realized there was a problem with the thieves' guild, it was way too late to reload to a previous save, so it doesn't matter for my current game. It is, however, very good to know how I can keep this from happening again. In my next incarnation I shall be a grandmaster thief for sure:sly:!

i dunno about that.
i have a custom character, too. a thief/fighter blend. she approached the theive's guild FIRST. right after talking to her "Sugar Daddy" Caius. :) anyway, she wasn't given any kind of option at all to join the guild. every other time i've played, i can do it... so, i know who to talk to etc to join.
any ideas?
