Know who had single mindedness, dedication, planning and so on, too? Anders Breivik. Wait, I mean Hitler. Wait, I mean Albert Einstein. Wait, I mean my flatmate / father / distant relative / ex-girlfriend...

looks kind of feminine :nono:
So does this.

http://thief-thecircle.com/media/concepts/t2-sketch-garrett2.jpgEarly Garrett concept art from Looking Glass had a certain Pre-Raphaelite, art nouveau, quasi-feminine look to it. Which I dig. It set Garrett apart in the late-'90s (and today) when every male protagonist was expected to be a pseudo-macho cliché like DoomGuy or Solid Snake.
Eidos Montréal may be failing in several regards. 'Feminizing' Garrett isn't one of them.

Brie brings teh Godwin's Law! Keeping it typical and predictable on the 'Net.

Let's agree to disagree.
I'm talking about single mindedness, dedication, planning and so on. I'm focusing on the underlying qualities and not on how they look or act.
Of course you can extrapolate these qualities to many fictional characters (Batman included) but Garrett and the Joker are both criminals so...
"Do I look like the kind of guy who has a plan?"
Seriously, dude, you are
wrong. "Agree to disagree" is meaningless when you are
patently objectively incorrect. This isn't "opinion vs. opinion" -- it's "narcissist vs.
reality." I don't understand why you're holding on to this so hard, particularly against someone who knows comics a lot more than you do. Just admit you're wrong and we can all go home. Jesus.

10/10, would hold both hands with. Although there is also this early design sketch of Garrett floating around from the thief 1 days,

Are they all also fictional criminals in modern entertainment media?

The point was (besides bringing a much needed Hitler to the thread) that single mindedness, dedication and planning can be applied to almost anyone in fiction or real life. Almost every single video game character can be described using these words, considering that these elements are required to be a hero. Thus, they can hardly be used as specific details of a character's persona.
In addition, the Joker is one of the worst characters to apply those traits to, since he doesn't really have a cause and often finds careful planning laughable, as dethtoll pointed out.
I'm sorry I chimed in the argument, it's obvious to everyone that your comparison doesn't hold, and I was bringing nothing to the table except a cheap laugh but man, you've got to admit that your insistence on upholding the comparison between the Joker and Garrett is a bit ridiculous.

I understand what you find different about them, and I largely agree. But I find them more similar than many other potential pairings and more importantly I don't find EM mentioning them both in the same breath so outrageous.

Garrett could totally be Joker... just needs more lipstick.

the fact that they're reacting to the fans in some way is encouraging.
They are not reacting to fans, they are reacting to backlash.

More than, say, Garrett and Catwoman? Really, dude?
