Thief's hero redesigned to be 'more mainstream'...relative to internal designs - by retractingblinds

Oh please. They're not even remotely similar. I know you don't read comics, but I do, and I'm telling you, the Joker is a completely different kind of character from Garrett. The Joker isn't going to be sneaking into noblemen's homes and stealing everything that's not nailed down and then sneaking out without a sound. That's a Catwoman gag. The Joker will more likely wake the nobleman from his slumber, tell him he's got the guy's wife, make him run through hoops to get his wife back, give the Joker all his money (which the Joker will burn) and then it's revealed that the poor guy's wife was not only dead but Joker never had her in the first place. And then he shoots the guy out of a cannon into a crowded town square. The nobleman may or may not be alive for the cannon bit.
They are not at all alike. Garrett and Catwoman? The only real difference is tits. Trying to draw a line between Garrett and the Joker with the 'chaos' thing is really, really, really stretching it, even for you. And the Joker wouldn't like Garrett anyway because ol' Hoodieface is just too moody, like someone else we know who skulks in the shadows.

The (
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-14-thief-4-hero-garrett-less-gothic-more-mainstream) original news story has been updated.
Quote:
Thief director Nicolas Cantin has clarified his comments about Garrett's new look, stating that the character only looks "less gothic" and more "mainstream" than previous internal designs, not compared to earlier games.
Also SubjEff, you are talking crazytalk. Garrett and The Joker do not have much in common. Dethy has a good point in that Garrett is similar to Catwoman though. Both of them just want to get the loot, but have occasional bouts of conscience which drives them to do the right thing. Catwoman is an anti-hero, the Joker is not.

That early model kinda looks like Jason Carter without the facial hair:

And about Garrett and loot. Before TDS, Garrett
wasn't about the loot in most cases.

Actually the comments there are some of the more positive things I've read about the game yet. I still don't get why you need tons of wiring across your chest for action moves but the fact that they're reacting to the fans in some way is encouraging.

I'm not talking about their activities nor their morals (or lack of).
I'm taking about their expertise and the method of.
You guys really are looking at it too superficially. I know they are very different characters but even different characters can share similar traits.

And that update about being a master thief and not a killing machine is promising.
Will placate people though? Unlikely.

We're looking at it too superficially when we look at their morals? I... uh... let's move on.
Their expertise? Ok, there's some overlap in their individual skill-sets, sure. Their methods? No. Read (

Let's agree to disagree.
I'm talking about single mindedness, dedication, planning and so on. I'm focusing on the underlying qualities and not on how they look or act.
Of course you can extrapolate these qualities to many fictional characters (Batman included) but Garrett and the Joker are both criminals so...
