Thief2X with Steam version? - by R34V3R

Hey everyone, it's been awhile, and glad to see the community is still here, as ever! I didn't see anything on this, but I want to run Thief2X on my steam version of Thief 2, the problem is, once installed, Thief2X still wants a cd, i tried to change darkinst.cfg so that it points to the directory for Thief 2 for that but I really don't know what I am doing. Anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: BTW, I have Tafferpatcher installed (before I installed Thief2X)

I notice that your fourth line down says "patchedres+.\res.", which is much different than what mine reads. Did you use some kind of cd crack to bypass this or did you maybe install Tafferpatcher after thief2x?

bedwine obviously installed some of the optional fixes ('Complete Resource FixPack' ?) from TafferPatcher, which you decided to not install.
Looks perfectly ok. It would be most interesting to see what YOUR cfg file looks like, R34V3R.
Specifically the one in your T2X folder!
Do you get that nasty CD question also when playing the game or other FMs?

No, I can run thief 1 and 2 fine! And I swear I checked the resource fix pack as well.... hmm. I haven't had a chance to try other FMs... Here is my T2X Darkinst.:

this might sound crazy, but try copying MISS8.MIS from your Thief2 folder into your T2x folder.

Um, alright... so I loaded up darkloader, put in my directories, and installed an fm for thief 1 to try, and it worked fine. Right after, just for the hell of it, I hit the desktop shortcut for Shadows of the Metal Age, and it booted right up. I'm glad it works but I have no idea why, which I hate haha.
EDIT: The game is very dark, so i changed the gamma and the game looks horrible, all the colors are messed up.... sigh.

To address your darkness/gamma issue:
-edit cam_ext.cfg and uncomment (remove the ; from the beginning of) the d3d_disp_no_rgb10_buf line.
This is something I used in thief 2 to fix gamma issues. Not sure if it can help the color changes, but it might make a difference.
I'll be following the advice on this thread to get fan missions running, myself. Thanks all!

Once you figured out what the fix for that CD problem is, you might want to consider having a look into this:

Unfortunately due to the fact that T2X installs perfectly different then any other FM (into a separate t2x subfolder),
you would need to tafferpatch the t2x install as well in order to benefit from NewDark.
In order to avoid that hazzle:
- install T2X
- Make a copy of the T2X folder
- uninstall T2X
Then do some cleanup on the copy of the T2X folder:
- delete all irrelevant files (like *.exe, *.cfg, etc... )
- and ZIP the rest so it looks like a regular FM zip
Then install the new ZIP with your favorite mission loader.
You loose nothing like that.
