Tweaking means changing default settings, registry hacks, adding INF files, etc. That will probably not help. That is not the same as programming, which means going into the C code and removing the bug.
So you are telling me that if Nvidia (or Eidos or someone) does not fix it in a driver or patch then we are stuck with the 2 card workaround. Oh well, at least there is a fix.

Ive got stonewalled by both Eidos and nVidia, which is why ive been working to find a fix/workaround myself - hence the dual card solution.

Stonewalled meaning no reply?

as in............ then dont have enough people playing thief on 8x00 series cards so they wont devote any time to fixing it.......

Eidos is not in the programming business. They are publishers. The people who programmed T1 and T2 (Looking Glass Studios) have been scattered to the winds for a few years. There is no way you could get satisfaction there, although a little explanation might be in order.
Nvidia is clearly to blame for this problem, which started around three years ago and has been getting worse ever since.
There are alternatives to a two card solution. One is ATI (which has its own issues) and the other is a separate computer.

I have looked around for a 5900 series card in PCI-e but have not seen any. If you find one let me know. See them around in AGP but not many.
I have found a PCI-e version, but they wanted £50 which is a rip off for a such an ancient card...!!! so the search continues...I have found that the Quadro FX 3000 is based on the same chip (NV35/38) - So If I pick one up cheap enough Im hoping it will still let me play thief and or can be bios flashed back to a FX 5900.
UPDATE: just read this over on the nVidia forum

I suggest you PM Brian_S or ChrisRay pointing them to your Thief 1/2 rendering issues threads so they might pass your issues to driver team etc - otherwise your info might not be noticed and get wasted. This is user forum generally (and not official Nvidia support forum etc) and it isn't said anywhere that people from Nvidia get to read your posts.
Don't forget to check/read/post your issues with Thief games in this great thread started by BFG10K:
(
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=21028)
There's lots of people posting their issues with various games including older ones, there's a contact info to Nvidia there as well, Brian_S which is a mod here posts there and most importantly, he forwarded this thread to Nvidia, so Nvidia staff probably looks there from time to time and your issues with Thief would more easily get noticed by them there. Don't forget to post screens there as well with issues clearly marked and/or explained.

Interesting Biker. WOnder if Nvidia will take note.
Also thought I would tell you that I went to the link above and only one of your screen shots was showing. And it was the good one from your laptop. The bad texture shot was not there, but there was a place card saying "user posted image". Don't know if it is the forum of what but thought you should know.

Biker,
Did you PM Brian_S or ChrisRay? I thought I might. Just wondered if you had, and what they said.

There's no NVIDIA support forum.
I will forward your thread on, but I'll tell you upfront that they prioritize driver work on number of requests, and I'd guess they aren't getting many on Thief 1 and 2 these days.
(even Thief 2 is 7 years old)
