That is a common mission bug that, evidently, was not caught in testing. I think it has nothing to do with DDFIX. I imagine that if you jump into the water you will still be able hear the splash and swim in it.
I can speculate that the mission could be green because the developer has a recent Nvidia card and could not see it rendered properly.
I had this bug, too, when I was still running my Nvidia cards.
IIRC loading a saved game should cure that - but I don't remember if the save has to be one before before the bug kicks in or if the reloading and graphics initializing is enough.

hmmm, I find that hard to believe as I have tested 171.xx drivers on my GTX
1. So using the original .exe the in game menus don't corrupt..?
2. the shadows in games arent bad, as per every driver on the 8x00 series of cards...
can you post screen shots...

I guess this is not a ddfix problem.
I re-loaded the game and the water is back. :o
I do have some guards though, running on the spot (Not moving) after a while If I go near at the back they move.
Has any one tried the Guru3D tools with Nvida to get fog?
must be is It as bikers says no can do. I won't risk it/

Same here - I seriously doubt that any driver higher than and including 169.x works with dark engine on 8800GT - I spent literally hours trying to make it work and was able to run thief on 8800GT only after I discovered 167.26 drivers on the CD that came with my 8800GT :) I reported that find in other thread in my discussion with EvaUnit02 and (s)he tested them - looks like those are the only drivers that simultaneously support 8800GT and run Dark engine games.

I've posted in a few places (wherever others are discussing Thief 1 not working on 8000+ hardware) and in one place someone mentioned that DDfix could be used for Thief Gold as well.
Is it supposed to work? I tried the hex edit version and I get an error that direct x version 6 is not installed, graphics acceleration will not work, and I have to play in windowed mode. then the game crashes where it always does.
DDfix does work fine for me with T2. Am I barking up the wrong tree with T1?
Thanks.

Excellent! I also managed to get the direct X 6 error to go away. (I accidentally modified both dll's instead of just the first).
Only now, I get the same black screen at mission load and it is a hard crash (I have to reboot). Before it was a soft crash that I could ctrl+alt+del away from.
Any instructions on how to make this work? I have tried with both the original TG .exe and the one from TTLG that corrects the texture error. DDfix works for T2 so I think I have the right version of Direct X, etc. Also in TG, in the menu before trying to play, the resolution is set at 640X480 with no other ones listed. This is regardless of what I put in the ini file. (this later issue is of course secondary to getting TG working).
Thanks for the response.

T1 w/ DDFix = the light gem randomly disappears and reappears. But you also get 32-bit colours.
BTW Simplex, I'm male. My handle is a reference to the anime Evangelion, not a lady's name.

I'm looking for a way to make T1 run using the DDFix. I tried but got errors and it wouldn't work (I tried using a hex editor based on the instructions for T2).
I've heard a few say that it will work, but I've not heard any specifics (kind of like the bow upgrade...:p )
Thanks for any help.
